I applied online. The process took 2 daysinterviewed at The Home Depot (Broussard, LA (US)) in February 2014.

    Interview

99% of the "interview" is online as part of the application process. It will take you a few hours and is very complete. A few questions are tricky due to them asking you to [rank out of five choices the proper action to take in a situation.] If you get called in for an in-person meeting, you've pretty much got the job and they are just checking for consistency and personability with six or seven additional paragraph-form questions. I was personally seen by the store manager rather than the HR manager but it seems that was an exception.

    Interview Questions

    • There is a series of questions in which you are given five choices and need to choose the best and worst options for the given scenario. These do not seem to be consistent across multiple applications but need to be carefully considered from both a customer and associate point of view. There may not be a "wrong" answer to them but there certainly is a "more right" one.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

Entering as a seasonal garden associate, there was little negotiation beyond setting my available hours.

    Interview

Applied online on Jan. 1, received a call from corporate on Jan. 20 to do a phone interview, got a call 10 days later to answer a few more questions and set up an in store interview. Interviewed on Feb. 12 and was hired on the spot for Garden Sales position. Even though I had more experience in other areas of the store, they hired me into Garden for the upcoming spring season, even though I didn't know a thing about plants and fertilizer. Initially, pay was supposed to be $9.50 an hour part time. I negotiated it up to $10, but I had to twist the store managers arm to do so. Also, I was hired as a part-time (temporary) position. It is a 120 day trial period to see if I was worthy to be kept on.

The hiring process took place over a month in a half. If you are interested in a position at THD, apply online right now, and worry about the interview part later.

    Interview Questions

    • In the phone and in-store interview, I was asked, "when were you in a difficult situation at a previous job and how did you handle the situation?"   1 Answer

    Interview

I attended a hiring fair that was held during January. I was given a short interview and asked simple questions such as: what does customer service mean to you, why The Home Depot . Next i got a call from an HR rep with another interview over the phone this time. Going over my resume and stuff. Also asking some behaviour type questions. Next i was contacted about 2 weeks later to meet with a department manager for seasonal. Met him and had another interview which consisted of 6 behaviour type questions - very challenging if youre not prepared. Common questions included - (1) What would you do if you noticed a customer is standing around in your department but he/she looks lost. (2) How would you sell a lawn mower to a customer (3) How would you close the sale (4) tell me of a time you offered exceptional customer service and what was the result (5) Tell me of a time you had to attend to a task that required strong attention to detail

    Interview

It took a few months from when I originally applied to be contacted for an interview. However, once I was, everything was quite quick (as it was summer and the busiest time). I had two interviews with he HR associate, and on the second, he handed me the orientation booklet. A long wait for contact, but very quick interview process.

    Interview

The hiring process is easy as all you have to do to to their website and apply. But after you enter your info there is about 50 or more questions about your life, work and how you deal with problems. And they do change compared to what you are applying to.

As for the interview process it is some what easy. You go into a room and get asked 5 questions about different things from life to work. They do rate your answers to the questions. The better you answer the better score you get. And the easier you get the job.

    Interview Questions

    • This is a hard to just pick one. The most unexpected question will be how do you deal with problems and change.   1 Answer
