People change MANAGERS and not such good Companies.

    ICa (Current Employee) Mānesar

ProsIt is a good company to work with in terms of work life balance and the work.

ConsBut the dsiheartening part is people Managers think that they are God and they exploit the expertise and efficiency of lower band levels by not utilizing it to the core. Esp in ABRT Finance, male managers are authoritative, dominating and does not even have the etiquettes to talk to their peers.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease create a concept called FEEDBACK and seriously do something for the less privileged ones left out in the organization left at the mercy of such God called managers. Thanks !!
People change managers and not companies.. N managerial support is pathetic.

    good paying company but unpredictable

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Prosgood pay check and good work environment

ConsUnpredictable. business unit was closed down in very short notice and employees asked to go

Advice to Senior ManagementThere will be definitely harsh decisions based on companies performance, but layoffs can be done in more supportive manner with reasonable compensation benefits

13 Years of Layoffs have left a Toxic Shell

Field Marketing (Current Employee) Wilmington, DE (US)

    ProsNice mono-culture
If you are Female or Gay it is Great
In the heart of Santa Clara with Easy freeway access

Cons13 years of layoffs and spinoffs have left nothing but a toxic shell dedicated to pulling money out for the shareholders and thereby driving executive bonus plans
Bill Sullivan sees employees, especially those in the US as a huge liability
Benefits have been cut to the bone and the cuts keep coming
Small raises for only the top 5%, everyone else goes begging
Management cannot make even small decisions quickly
The environment is actively hostile to non-managers over the age of 40
The company has been under Reduction In Force (RIF) since 2000 and has "grown" from 51,000 to 17,000 employees

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up and look at your products and employees.

    The product line is stagnent

The employees are 9-5'ers with no incentive to do anything new because innovation and initiative are CRUSHED.

    No loyalty to IT employees

    IT Project Manager (Former Employee)

ProsGreat mission. Decent pay. Good people to work with.

ConsConstant drive for low cost IT services....to the point that all they do is outsource. Half the price for 1/4th the quality. Very disappointing.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake IT accountable to the business and give them the budget to actually add value.

    Employee

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsLeader in some market space. If you work in R&D or sales in those you are ok. Otherwise the organization will prevail and your chances to succed are very limited

ConsVery beurocratic, centrally managed, political management style. A yesman kind is the perfect profile for career opportunities here. If you like to just execute, this is the job for you, but if you want to think and express your thoughts life is going to be difficult

Advice to Senior ManagementChange style and the overall organizational model

Manufacturing Specialist (Former Employee) Lexington, MA (US)

Prosnone, always waiting for parts because they kept vendors waiting for payment

Consno raises, sent jobs overseas, Kept incapable Engineers and Quality Personel

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't lie to employees to make them think your there for the long run

Age Discrimination – Outsources Americans, once great … no more!

    Purchasing (Former Employee)

ProsGood place for entry level straight out of college hires.
    Otherwise, nothing positive.

    ConsAge Discrimination:
If you are over 50 you are at great risk, they will force you to retire if they can. Otherwise they micromanage until they can fire you. If you are over 50 you are held to entirely different standard.

    Ruthless abuse of power:
Peers in Germany were tricked into crossing the board to a new base office in Switzerland. This made their employment exempt from German law; within 12 months the entire SITE lost their jobs to Singapore.

Management will lie and falsify records:
Personal is under staffed and afraid to take a stand. Management will change commitments after they are set and claim you missed them. They’ll use absurd logic and outright lie to move anyone out of the way that is a threat to their advancement.

    No local accountability:
A manager in the USA might report to someone in Singapore, so the American can be a dictator and tyrant while sucking up to his boss. You would think his boss would meet with the employees and spend at least a few minutes to learn what was going on. Not even three minutes of time in five years, a total disgrace to the founding HP Way.

Morally and ethically corrupt the oppression is unbelievable.

Advice to Senior ManagementMiddle managers take credit the results and upper management has no clue to the truth. You need to look at the trends of how you are forcing old employees out before you slammed in a major class action law suit. Extremely disappointed with the CEO who was on board during the Hewlett Packard days, if he still believes in those values he need to sick out and remove the bullies in middle management.

After 13 years of stellar performance, I was brutally laid off

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsUp until I was laid off, it was the the best job of my 40 year career. The technology is great and they are doing very interesting things. Most of the rank and file engineers are very smart and great to work with.

ConsThe company was just split into the medical ("Life Sciences') and electronics ("Electronics Measurement Group"). The Life Sciences company will keep the Agilent name and who knows what the Electronics Company will be called. I was a master level level electronics engineer who's contributions were in almost all of the microwave and RF products. The "HP" way is so dead and gone.

Advice to Senior ManagementWay too much corporate BS. Only thing that you care about is the ROIC to line your own pockets. There are some very evil and incompetent mangers who don't have the skills to work in a high technology company.
