    Pros

    Lots of young blood.
    Some Fruits and Snacks.

    Cons

I spent 4 years in the company and kept seeing it spiral downwards. It just kept going from bad to worse.
    1. No technical growth
    2. Below par salaries. The salary given to campus selected fresher in 2004 = 3.5Lakhs/annum. Salary given to fresher 2013=3.2Lakhs/annum.
    3. Random figure to calculate iteration. They say low iteration, but you never seem to see the same faces again. Someone from HR once told us how they calculate iteration which made no sense as they said the iteration numbers were low because of larger hiring numbers.
    4. Recruit people by saying for development and then move them to support/non-dox products.
    5. Even in development team, there is no real development work going on. They have a product ready. The product design and development does not happen in India. Here, we mostly tweak existing stuff to customer requirements.
    6. If you are lucky, then you might get to be on a decent project. If you are on a new or "upcoming" project then you will be spending 14 hrs in office and wont get weekends.
    7. Idea of compensation and support is absurd. Its set up by managers and HR who do not wish to give any money or extra leaves to the employee. The rule is if you work on saturday for 9 hrs then you will get the number of hours worked on sunday as compoff. So managers either call you to work only on saturdays and make you stay til the work is done, usually 12 to 15 hrs or you are on "on-call" support. Which means you will need to work only if you get a call, which will invariable come and so you cannot leave home. But you should only write the hours you worked exactly. So you endup losing your day to office with out any benefit.
    8. The management changed hands in 2010. Since then the new managements idea for India center is : India is very big in the service sector with low pay. So we should try to get all the work that we can get for the service part of the company. Since Asia is a very big market, so we can do a lot here. May be good idea on paper, but this was valid maybe in 1990's. Now Indian market is a lot higher paying and so the basic premise is faulty. The upper management does not have an idea of what the company product is about. They make absurd and illogical promises to clients which cannot be kept and then blame developers/support teams for not keeping their word.
    9. Amdocs products are very costly for the Asian Market. Rates that they use outside of India (in developed nations) cannot be used with-in Asia. This is a big bottleneck for them because they need lot of investment to handle the very large customer base with-in Asia but they wont make as much money out of it. So to keep things on an even profit margin, they need to cut the number of people working on the project, but all commitments need to be kept.
    10. There is an idea of "Com-managers" with in this company. The com-managers are people who will act as bridge between client and technical staff. So they are supposed to act as the go between. They are important to a project as long as a real communication chain needs to exist between client and company. So when cost cutting moves come in, they should be among the first to be booted. They are non-technical and the developer invariably has to communicate to the client on the work being done. So the "Com" needs to make certain that there is enough chaos going on so as to keep his position secure. This was visible in multiple projects that I worked on.
    11. If you have worked here a few years (2-4) then you have by then become : a person with lots of Amdocs experience but with zero technical skills because all you use are select/update and ls-lrt commads. Position above GL are management. You can become an SSME in 2 to 2.5 years. GL may take about 6 to 8 based on how good your rapo is with your manager and if he is any good at selling you. Salaries and hikes are based on how "bell curve" on project to project, so to speak. The hike numbers may sound as market average (8% to 15% was the average that they maintained when I was there), but because their sals are on a lower side of market, you will always remain less than market average. And because you have no technical skills to speak off, you cannot get out to another company easily. And because there is no real time to learn anything on your own as well because of expected hours of support, you cannot improve yourself either.
    12. Team meetings were funny, where managers would tell us, that people whose project is now stable should start working on making other peoples project out of the goodness of our heart with out any benefits. (HR funda I guess)
    13. There is the probability of onsite projects. Thats the carrot which is given to you if you start crying.
    14. There is a core team. They are supposed to be the ones who work on the exact product code. Only the India team once again serves as the support team. All calls for product crash and unexpected behavior come to India and they are supposed to reproduce and fix it. But the actual code development will stay only in Israel.

    Advice to Management

    1. Upgrade. India can do better work than Cyprus and Israel teams put together. Show a backbone and start developing products such as Turbo-Charging in India. At the very least, get the source code access in India so that people can actually fix the bugs in them rather than say : Its a black box, only with experience we will learn how it works.
    2. Requirement for management should not be that they can speak in English. It should also require them to know the product. Com managers, be it from Israel, US or India do not know how the product works. They need to be more than technically zero. They should also learn how the product works, Train then and test them regularly rather than just making GLs and SSME do all the work.
    3. Stop thinking of India as the service sector of the world. Is 2 decades since that happened. Revamp or perish.
    4. Hindi/Marathi is not the second or primary language neither is Telegu and certainly not Hebrew. Its unprofessional to hear conversations on bridge in any of these languages irrespective of how comfortable or what position whoever maybe using the language has.

    Pros

    Free snacks, subsidized lunch coupons

    Cons

-No good work. You need to be very lucky to be in a good development project. Most other projects are support/maintenance only.

-No job security at all. I know a dozen people who got fired from Amdocs. Most pf them for no good reason. One person familiar to me was let go as soon as he got married. Poor guy was devastated.

-No skill development during my 2 yrs of tenure here. Certainly not a place for technology enthusiast.

-So much office politics. You need to be manager's special to get hike/growth/travel etc.

    Advice to Management

You cant wake up someone who is pretending to sleep.

The company have really great culture to work in. They take care of your basic needs in office.

    Cons

Manager are still in mode of being a developer . Due to which they end up performing technical stuff and lose on managing people and their expectation.
Ultimately resulting poor performance by people.
This is is no more a product base company

    Advice to Management

We need need managers not micro managers.

    Cons

bad bad management, worst culture, worst managers, worst HR, politics everywhere, lack of knowledgeable people, no learning, zero technical expertise, good performance is never appreciated, low salaries, worse industry hikes, buttering is the only criteria for anything good that will happen to you.

    Advice to Management

remove old managers who gives no good input, take high salary and do politics.
    follow policies and not politics.

    Cons

Heavy politics. If you dont have a project you are gone.No bench to accommodate resources till a new project comes. No process in anything be it technical or managerial processes.Manager's ratings are final,no facility to raise your concerns against ratings.A totally hypocrite company wherein they will do 1000 rounds of skip leveels,1-o-1 blabla but would never act on the concerns made.

    Advice to Management

Improve the situation else you will be short of talents very soon.

    Pros

    1) Recognition and financial rewards in projects are exciting (if you manage to get them in a large team).

I am not able to see much Pros after experiencing work at other companies.

    Cons

Overall very less respect for developers.

    1) Very less industry standard technical exposure.
    2) 0% respect for work life balance. If you don't work for stretched hours then you might get poor rating in evaluation.
    3) Very less flexibility in switching technologies. All depends on luck when you were first allocated the project.
    4) Continuity of job is very uncertain. I have seen many intelligent people were given poor rating and were asked to leave (victims of office politics). Now they are in superb companies like Amazon, Walmart, Redbus, etc
     5) Onsite opportunity is history now. There are sites but travel department is not friendly. People deny going abroad these days.

    Advice to Management

Read the cons and try to improve it (although i have very less faith :) )

    Pros

Amdocs is good company as this is world leader in telcom billing. Working here, if lucky and get good exposure then it's a learning for you and specially if you are capable to make yourself free from the 95% garbage work (no learning/monotonous repetitive work not giving any broad picture) which happens to be a lot here.

Onsite opportunities with conditions:- it depends on ur luck to get the onsite opportuniy some get in 1 year some don't get in 10 years even following dedicatedly.

    Cons

    1. very bad management.
    2. very poor indian style planning. the management includes weekends in their plan in all projects.
    3. Even though you will propose managers that I would work 3 hours extra per day, 5 Days please make my weeked free. they simply reject as due to poor indian management brain.
They are very greedy and always want more, doesn't matter how much you give them. As a result resource in project goes 1 hrs in lunch .5 hrs in Tea, 1 hours in pantry and 10 minutes walk from the 12 hr they report too. That's mandatory as anyway even you seriously work and give more in weekdays they are going to ask you to work in weekends without a single penny extra.
    4. mangers don't have to work excpet chasing and calling employees day night.
    5. very poor apprisal system. technically strong and weak people get same salary hike as a result every year technically strong people leave.
    6. lot of buttering and favorism.

    Advice to Management

The only problem is ass hole managers. The managers in India are not worth their posts. They like buttering and persons who just says yes yes and does nothing. They are moron and smotionally fool. As a result technically strong people who are responsible for the project success eaither get the same salary than a non effective team mates or get even some time lesser. I think they don't know the meaning and importance of the appraisal. I want to ask Insraelee management please fire some managers from India, specially from top.
