    Pros

Good money, good benefits, and overtime pays well.

    Cons

Terrible union based hours based on seniority and working holidays. You have to deal with angry customers a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They are quick to punish you for small errors, yet look the other way when there are serious issues like scamming going on. The hours can be crazy and changing. You will not have a good work/life balance because it's seniority based scheduling and long hours.

    Pros

Upward advancement possible if you are willing to relocate.

    Cons

Certain locations have extremely high turn over ratesy due to long hours, lack of man power, low pay and low morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No one wants to embrace old technology. Whoever is in charge of this area should rethink their strategy. The competition certainly has.

Poor Rental Sales Agent Training At Counter

Current Employee - Rental Sales Agent

    Pros

    Benefits

Large blocks of slow periods at my location.

I am single, so I don't mind working weekends, holidays, odd shifts.

Due to my previous work history, there is ample room for advancement.

    Cons

Operations managers are nice but do not perform some of their duties to adequate levels. For example:

They don't train the rental sales agents at the counter, despite the fact that it is their policy to do so.

Poor/slow resupply of smaller vehicles from the cleaning department, and slow shuttle drivers. How many shuttle drivers does it take to change a light bulb?

I accepted and even embraced their upselling and selling of add-on products. However, when we have a longer rental period from a customer, such as 3 weeks, with no upsell or add-ons, it drags our average down.

If we don't meet sales expectations, we can be let go. Maybe they should place less weight on these longer rentals as it pertains to our average. This is the reason I will not recommend this company to friends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Accountability for ops managers on above. These are not difficult components to manage, but there isn't a mechanism to double check that they are performing these duties.

My location has several employees that have been here for more than 10 years. They catch/fix some of these problems. The portion that fall through this line of defense result in service failures to the customers.

Replace the antique DOS reservation system LOL.

    Stressful

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Co-workers for the most part are very friendly and helpful. The training program is very in depth and helpful. Keeps you busy so time goes by fast.

    Cons

Management is never on the same page. You can be told you are doing great by several of them and then you basically suck by another. Different rules apply for different people. Moral since I have been here has gotten even worse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get on the same page! Deal with issues brought to your attention and dont bury your head in the sand. It hurts moral and makes us that work for you feel not important.

    Pros

Discount on car rentals that's the only perk. But you often can just catch a better deal through a travel site.

    Cons

Terrible scheduling. Upper management seems to not know, better yet doesn't have an ounce of a clue what takes place during each shift changes when it comes to operations. Seniority is a big deal, you will always get the short end of the stick when it comes to scheduling, vacation time and personal time off requests.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue. Your customers, especially many of your corporate "Avis First & Preferred" are rude & treat your employees like crap.

The culture has changed too much; they're looking for twice work in half time; hurting their ability to keep employees.

    Pros

The company has decent benefits, and seems to attract people. There still is a good feeling about working for the company and the competition for tops in the RAC market.

    Cons

Once they know that you are good, they expect an exponential amount. They throw more and more, until you are covered. They just can not seem to keep good employees becuase they work them to death.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Avis always said there was a good work/life balance. I suggest that you take a long look at the mirror.

    Pros

It gave me a chance when I was young and just getting started. Good computer skill training. Good benefits overall. My immediate co-workers were friendly.

    Cons

I did not enjoy my management team and often felt held back. My manager one time kept track of how long I went to the bathroom (7 minutes). I was micro managed and felt underpaid and under appreciated. Truly lacked general appreciation on a regular basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs more interpersonal skills and should be encouraging younger employees to innovate. The living the values awards should be more than once a year and regular recognition should be implemented.

    Pros

The job was fun. Company car.

    Cons

Very old school. No forward thinking. Organization driven by fear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the directors and notice the turnover. You have a great product but mid level management is in fear of their jobs and it rolls downhill.
