    Pros

Manage and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Support Services (HR, IT and Finance), through improvements to each function as well as coordination and communication between support and business functions.
Play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence.
Oversee overall financial management, planning, systems and controls.
Management of agency budget in coordination with the Executive Director.
    Development of individual program budgets
Invoicing to funding sources, including calculation of completed units of service.
Payroll management, including tabulation of accrued employee benefits.
Disbursement of checks for agency expenses.
    Organization of fiscal documents.
Regular meetings with Executive Director around fiscal planning.
Supervise and coach office manager on a weekly basis.

    Cons

You will sign a contract with the outsourcing company that will cover the details of the service that they will be providing. Any thing not covered in the contract will be the basis for you to pay additional charges. Additionally, you will experience legal fees to retain a lawyer to review the contacts you will sign. Remember, this is the outsourcing company's business. They have done this before and they are the ones that write the contract. Therefore, you will be at a disadvantage when negotiations start.

Former Employee - Customer Service Representative in Cincinnati, OH (US)

I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The atmosphere and overall structure is very laid back and down to earth. Work is often tedious and busy but very easy to accomplish. Growth opportunities are stellar if you're willing to relocate. Benefits are good, raises are fair, and front line (operations) management team is helpful.

    Cons

Seriously unethical business practices, cutthroat wolf pit of a sales team, pampered service agents, high exposure to weather elements, poverty level starting wages, unprofessional overall morale, questionable fiscal decisions, outdated business model, unbelievable communications gap between operations and upper management, and unreliable on their promises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start following through on your word, improve communications, develop a training strategy, put service ahead of sales interests, and try making more sensible improvements.

    Pros

Starting pay is good... usually 11.50 and then plus commission if you are a rental sales agent
The "down" months where we are not too busy and get paid to just be there sometimes

    Cons

    MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATION
Summer and being oversold on cars..... EVERY DAY!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to talk to your employees about how they really feel about things.

I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good money, good benefits, and overtime pays well.

    Cons

Terrible union based hours based on seniority and working holidays. You have to deal with angry customers a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They are quick to punish you for small errors, yet look the other way when there are serious issues like scamming going on. The hours can be crazy and changing. You will not have a good work/life balance because it's seniority based scheduling and long hours.

    Pros

Upward advancement possible if you are willing to relocate.

    Cons

Certain locations have extremely high turn over ratesy due to long hours, lack of man power, low pay and low morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No one wants to embrace old technology. Whoever is in charge of this area should rethink their strategy. The competition certainly has.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Benefits

Large blocks of slow periods at my location.

I am single, so I don't mind working weekends, holidays, odd shifts.

Due to my previous work history, there is ample room for advancement.

    Cons

Operations managers are nice but do not perform some of their duties to adequate levels. For example:

They don't train the rental sales agents at the counter, despite the fact that it is their policy to do so.

Poor/slow resupply of smaller vehicles from the cleaning department, and slow shuttle drivers. How many shuttle drivers does it take to change a light bulb?

I accepted and even embraced their upselling and selling of add-on products. However, when we have a longer rental period from a customer, such as 3 weeks, with no upsell or add-ons, it drags our average down.

If we don't meet sales expectations, we can be let go. Maybe they should place less weight on these longer rentals as it pertains to our average. This is the reason I will not recommend this company to friends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Accountability for ops managers on above. These are not difficult components to manage, but there isn't a mechanism to double check that they are performing these duties.

My location has several employees that have been here for more than 10 years. They catch/fix some of these problems. The portion that fall through this line of defense result in service failures to the customers.

Replace the antique DOS reservation system LOL.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Discount on car rentals that's the only perk. But you often can just catch a better deal through a travel site.

    Cons

Terrible scheduling. Upper management seems to not know, better yet doesn't have an ounce of a clue what takes place during each shift changes when it comes to operations. Seniority is a big deal, you will always get the short end of the stick when it comes to scheduling, vacation time and personal time off requests.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue. Your customers, especially many of your corporate "Avis First & Preferred" are rude & treat your employees like crap.

    Pros

The company has decent benefits, and seems to attract people. There still is a good feeling about working for the company and the competition for tops in the RAC market.

    Cons

Once they know that you are good, they expect an exponential amount. They throw more and more, until you are covered. They just can not seem to keep good employees becuase they work them to death.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Avis always said there was a good work/life balance. I suggest that you take a long look at the mirror.
