I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Free parking, some really great people, benefits are great

    Cons

Lots of back and forth arguing between co-workers and management. Also, there were a lot of rumors and there was no room for growth in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think that Avis budget is actually a really good company to work for. I think I was just hired at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The people are, for the most part, very nice, friendly and eager to provide assistance, especially for new hires. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

    Cons

CEO seemed overly concerned about profit. Salaries seemed a little low, quite a bit of overtime for some people and semi high turnover rate. Everyone is given fifteen minute breaks in addition to lunch, but people seem reluctant to take them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a less stressful job, with a less stressful CEO.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

In your first year you get 2 weeks of paid vacations and one floating holiday.
Everything goes by seniority so you have to bid for your schedule but once you are no longer manager assigned (typically 8 months) you can choose your hours. By that time you have learned almost every position whether it is at the exit gate, at preferred, check ins, the ready line, and even the front counter and you get two days off each week to relax and take it easy.
The health benefits are great to have and when you know how the rental process works it makes your next car rental a breeze. You also have the opportunity to contribute to your 401k and you can purchase a stock plan if you want.
They also have the Avis Budget Celebrate program where you accumulate reward points for your volunteer efforts and your customer service. You can buy gift cards or merchandise off the website and this is a great motivation to take care of your customers instead of ignoring them.
If you like to talk to people you can advance into the rental sales associate position or to the customer lead position if you think you are a good problem solver.
Trust your coworkers despite their flaws. They will be your largest resource for knowledge about how to work the various positions and how to keep your cool in stressful positions or on bad days.

    Cons

You have to bid a year in advance for your vacation and there is a point system in place. If you are late by one minute you get 1 point. If you call in sick you get two points. If you decide not to show up it is 4 points. The people who have been here the longest come in early and work late.
Due to the vacations and call outs, they sometimes forget to cover the person who is out and this causes problems with coverage. This can leave one person to work by themselves in a position that was built for two people or more. There are also people who take 45 minute lunches and suddenly disappear when you need them the most. They are doing a better job now that we have an email system but there have been times when I have worked by myself with a line of 100 or more cars.
Their training computer looks like MS-DOS and while they have a GUI system it runs slow and no one who is in a hurry will use it. Most of us compare GUI to the rollout of Healthcare.gov. We have handheld machines that scan the car and match names but they are also aging handhelds with Windows Mobile CE 5.0 and 6.0 running on them.
Once in a while the system goes down and we have to hand everything or we are out of cars because there is no one to clean them so this makes everyone frustrated and angry at us.
Thankfully, we have a process when the system goes down but it can be unsettling to a person who just got a job with us and I have to explain it doesn't happen everyday.
Rental Sales are based on a percentage so you can't rent to everybody and keep your percentage high which is why you will see salespeople in the break room not working. They are often required to work mandatory overtime.
Mangers are at work literally all the time. They are there when we leave and most likely there when we arrive for work. So don't expect empathy from either of these work groups if you have to stay late because 5 people called in sick.
Truthfully, I don't know why I still work for Avis Budget other than a lack of trying to work somewhere where people are passionate about their jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All of our training should be in troubleshooting real world problems, handling difficult conversations with customers, and ensuring our customers are happy. We need the ability to contact our customers to ask them how their rental is going and be able to direct them to an in house customer service person who can answer their questions and resolve the problem they are having with ABG. Your company is going to have to invest in technology heavily if you want to keep your employees in the future and attract new ones. I should be able to use an iPad to complete a customer's transaction instead of entering information into an old worn out system.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

-Great opportunity to make some money
    -Always changing atmosphere

    Cons

-The lies (employees to customers) and the hours (airport 24hrs.)!!!!!!
-The lack of leadership. They let top sellers get away w/anything! There are no ethics in this job!! NONE!!!!
-Taking too many customers can seriously affect your monthly commission check. I've never heard of a company paying their employees more money to work less! Those that do their job and stay visibly at the counter take too many customers and it hinders their monthly commission check.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Chances of moving on up if you're in a office position. Good hours with better than usual pay ( if located in a airport location)

    Cons

Very old school people. Old timers hold on to these jobs and make it really annoying to work with. The "big wiggs" think their all that when they show up. Pay could be a lot better. Stressful seasons kill you!
