    Pros

    It is better to work for Barclays overseas, rather than in India. In US/UK, the company has a decent brand name, and benefits from a strong local leadership team in the major geographies that it operates in. Conservative in its market posturing, it is doing reasonably well from a financial and strategy points of view.

    Cons

    In India, the main issue for Barclays is terrible leadership. Lack of transparency, ethics, professionalism. Performance appraisal is simply an eye-wash. Ratings and bonus are not determined by (a) the quality of work you do (b) the value you have generated for the company, but by other factors (read nepotism, cronyism, bias). HR best practices and leadership best practices are routinely flouted, because you can get away with the same. There is a tremendous culture of change resistance, innovation simply cannot happen because it will either be stalled because of vested interests, or, because leadership support will not be there. Strategy and management changes too frequently. Inadequate technical training for high end, high skill jobs.

    Pros

    Less demanding and Generous leave policy (30 annual leaves + sick leave). People agenda, Recommend for people looking for retired lifestyle

    Cons

    Low on values and talent. Lack of responsibility flows from the top. Projects get delayed every time and no one is responsible. Slow paced. Frequent changes at management level which reflects in regular changes to vision and strategy. This is not the place for ambitious people it could be very frustrating. Terrible work culture and no openness to learn from other banks. Too much importance for people agenda

    Take initiative, have clear vision and strategy, lead from the front, recognize talent and give importance to genuine contribution, veterans suck

    1. Nice salary levels for a location like Pune
    2. Good Infrastructure

    Cons

    1. No work life balance
    2. Salary on offer is not the same as what is on the payslip.
    3. HR Management is almost non-existent here and they have no empathy towards the employees.

    get educated at least to a higher secondary level. recruit management level people who behave like literates

    Pros

    1) good salary. around 20% more than market salary(if you have negotiated during HR discussion)
    2)Work from home option sometimes when you need
    3) flexible work hour
    4) year end bonus of 10% if you have got average and good rating

    Cons

    1) Work pressure. similar type of work on daily basis -so no growth
    2) Work from home does not mean you will be working less. This is the catch to provide you laptop and blackberry and burden you on work
    3) No transparent process in Appraisal. so lobby/oiling works. so tjose who are well politically stay here for long term
    4) No promotion . the role on which you have joined you will have to work on same role and no defined process to move to next level
    5) Whatever a 2yr guy does in support even a 10 yr B4 will do same work and when rating is provided manager has lot of point to tell what you have done when a 2 yr guy is doing what u also are doing
    6) no onsite. if u get a one/2 week onsite then it is a loss for you. as there is no per diem amount. whatever u spent at onsite they will provide the same amount once u provide the bill and same money u will get in 2 months.
    7) any monetary claim amount is paid after a month or more(45 days around SLA time)
    8) some manager who have joined 2-3 yr back does not want to switch job as they are getting paid very good salary and for them no work. just co-ordinate and bother the technical people

    9) You can not escalate anything to HR as it looks like HR process is there just to recruit the people and have 2 days of induction
    10) No internal position change as your current manager does not release you
    11) firing at singapore center - so no job security
    12) Some managers tries to bully you

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1)Define the exp level and promote the people to next role
    2) set the objective and expectation of employee and work with them to grow rather than their carrer becoming stagnant here

    Cons – no onsite
    no transparency
    appraisal process is not clear (totally dependent on ur relationship with manager)
    not much learning in work

    Advice to Senior Management – be more transparent in appraisal process and maintain consistency in pay packages of existing employees and lateral employees.
    Please don't be so racial by giving preference to Tamil.
    Higher Managers which has some BRAIN and they support people rather taking small thing personally

    Pros

    Only reason I chose to work for with them was as it was easy to get job with them and the transport commuting is easy as it is near a station and bus. Also parkiing permit given.

    Cons

    Managements spying on staff to the extent that they will come into the TOILET to tell you to hurry up as the customer queue is getting big!!! Even when ones just gone in, is this not bullying in the work place?. Management has a habit of picking on selected certain staff also. When it comes to emergency childcare management tells staff "get your finances in order so that you can afford a proper child career or get a bigger mortgage from Barclays to help you. Others get away with more than simple wrong doings and attitudes. When a complaint is made about this the management hide their favourites by making statements similar to "each person is dealt with on individual circumstances", "confidentiality" or "they will be spoken to". They still continue to do the wrongs. Management get transfers as "They find it too busy a branch from my old one....I can't take this." Other staff can't get transfers as "there's too much going on" as being the answer. Well if they find things "too much going on" then they are not worthy of being managers. Managers stick up for each other even when they are wrong. When challenged to many things the reply is "It's down to managers discretion", this even applies to getting time off for child sickness and doctors appointments etc.. Even cash differance are taken likely when made by certain staff and management come down hard on others who don't even make often or great value errors- favouritism. This is then paraded between themselves as an example setter...just to get marks and say "I have done my jobs" but they have done more wrong by NOT doing their job where it counts, both to company and colleagues. Customers are persuaded to take insurance and package account even when it is obviously not suitable for them. Management encourage this for the income for the branch.
    No work life understanding by management, they just want to look at company. There attitude an behaviour is having a negative effect on staff and moral and also work productivity.
