Current employer @ BTCI - Worst place to work

    Senior Analyst (Current Employee) Pune

    Pros1) Flexible work timings
    2) Good leave structure
    3) Work from home (Looks like pros but in reality it is con :)
    4) Competitive pay scale

Cons1) Totally manager driven company. Your appraisal or bonus depends on yr relation with manager not on efforts you are putting. So if you don't work doesn't matter if you are good in .....( no need to specify :)
    2) HR are worst--- You meet them only at induction and while leaving the company, I believe most of HR's are doing their interns as they themselves are not aware of Barclays policy.
    3) Join company at B5 - PM level, not at B4(Tech lead) or B3 else your personal life is going to be miserable.
    4) No Onsite - Racial discrimination.
    5) Appraisal process is not well defined, it all depends on your relation with line manager.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think most of B5 Managers are getting recruited by using Jack without any interviews with their relation with former or existing employee at higher level. Please provide some PMP training to managers as most are from non-technical and non -it background. OR Change the way of recruiting B5 Managers by scrutinizing their management and leader ship skills.

BTCI as a unit not valued much

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Pune

    ProsFlexible work culture
Pay on par with most IT companies
Constant employee feedback measuring at company level
Encourages employee participation at all levels
Lot of internal openings for movement/promotion
    Yearly Leave Allowance

ConsSpecific to business unit I worked with especially about onshore stakeholders:
Racially motivated, treats Indian counterparts as low grade people
    Concentrating core development work onshore
Too much interference in local management
Your major time is lost in meetings rather than focusing on actual work

    Company level:
No focus on location strategy in Pune
    Most processes marred with bureaucracy
Lack of standard processes across business units
Senior staff within company not open to change in work culture
Appraisal process is murky and lacks clarity and direction at site level
No involvement of HR in handling employee grievance/issues after induction
Internal movements not flexible, leads to career stagnation

Advice to Senior ManagementHigh time company establishes a firm identity of it's own while operating as a captive unit, a lot of money is being spent on employee welfare and other stuff however the employee is already missing out of that equation

    Aimlessly and inexperienced senior management

    Manager (Current Employee) Noida

Prosgrowing operations in india and merging or businesses

Consmyopic and arrogant management. No long term view.

Advice to Senior Managementrequire more MBA's from top schools at senior management level.

All that glitters is not gold

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Pune

ProsBetter package compared to other organizations
Lots of leaves - 30 casual and 12 sick
    Fairly good transport facility
    Free breakfast

    ConsNo work life balance
    Managers treat resources like labors
Barclays has lot of vendor staff, so there is constant permanent vs vendor politics ongoing, your managers will never support you whereas they will treat vendor staff better than client
    Hardly any vertical growth opportunities.
This being a captive organization, managers know that opportunities within the organization are less as compared to other service based companies, hence they make full use of it for their advantage and leave no stone unturned in terms of exploiting the resources

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your permanent staff more respectfully
Provide growth opportunities to deserving candidates

Good Brand and Pay scale but No work satisfaction

    Test Analyst (Former Employee) Pune

    ProsGood Brand Name
One of the highest pay scales in Pune

    ConsImmature senior mgmt.
    Very less transparency.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employees with more respect. Give them some stability, as too many changes over a short period of time would lead to motivation problems.
Need to create more transparency in the decisions that are impacting employees.

    Started off all right...

Project Manager (Former Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsGot to try out a few roles when I started, got some good experience and training, and (while not relevant to me) they supposedly allowed for a good work-life balance for working mums.

ConsChange after change after change. Everyone was constantly ready for battle, knowing you'd be at risk every 6 months meant everyone was fighting against their colleagues, doing anything they can to make themselves look better. Projects regularly started and thrown aside, wasting time and money and killing motivation. Hoops to jump through at every stage.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
