Six year employee during a period of tumultuous change.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Richardson, TX (US)

I worked at Blue Cross (TX) full-time for more than 5 years

ProsCoworkers are generally very nice people. Very diverse work force. Work hours are often flexible. Benefits are generally competitive.

ConsHours can often be very long, depending on the department. Work load can be heavy. Change is constant and often at very upsetting levels resulting in frequent organization realignments. Some of the drastic change is brought about by government and regulatory burden, but some of it is unnecessarily self inflicted.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake only the minimum necessary changes to departments, structures, processes and bosses due to unavoidable market force changes.Too often, the first strategy employed by management is: let's reorganize! This approach and the resulting chaos is highly stressful to employees and often, it just isn't necessary.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

ProsDecent 401k and pension. Co workers friendly

ConsMicro Managed ..open door policy is a joke. Workers stretched.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your people. We know exactly how to make the providers satisfied as well as what will make us happy. If we are happy BC will be happy....and finally be #1. You have yo work on the inside before stepping out to the massed.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Overall good experience.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Blue Cross (TX)

ProsVery financially stable, non-investor owned, family-oriented, a leader in health care insurance innovations, generous benefits. The pay depends on the area.

ConsOne is the massive bureaucracy which really gets in the way of the speed of business. The other is it is painfully obvious that people who work in the Chicago HQ receive preferential treatment regarding promotions. Can be hard on morale in the 3 other Blues. Nobody dares to bring it up out of fear of sounding "negative."
