I worked at Children's Hospital Boston (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The opportunity to work with world class physicians, many of whom would take the time to answer questions or explain a diagnosis to non-medical personnel was very interesting. Benefits at CHB are top-notch and you will probably have a hard time finding another employer who offers their employees so much.

    Cons

The politics can get in the way sometimes but I think that happens at a lot of companies.

I worked at Children's Hospital Boston full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You can always find people who really care about what they're doing and why they're doing it. People do pull together. If I ever felt like I was having a bad day - I'd look around - and then realize I was only whining. These kids and their families are amazing people.

    Cons

You'd think CHB would feel like it had a ton of money - and it may - but it seems like you're always trying to find the funds to cover this or that. It's a Harvard-Affiliated academic teaching hospital. There are politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to get feedback from your team, at all levels!

    Pros

The hospital provides training for students in various parts of the pharmacy throughout the hospital. Also a great place to make connections with pharmacists.

    Cons

    Pharmacy intern management.
Pay is low for interns compared to other hospitals in the area or retail pharmacies.
Interns get a raise once a year.

I worked at Children's Hospital Boston part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The entire mission of the hospital is terrific for the patients and families. I have worked for other hospitals and the upbeat and positivity at Children's is amazing.

    Cons

Some of the nurse managers tend to be controlling and not accept valid and constructive feedback from (non-nurse) employees who are experts on the projects we've worked on for years. I was laid off due to a "department reorganization" in a very brusk, rude, no-notice manner despite many years of employment at the hospital with excellent yearly reviews from former managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees who deal directly with patients and families ... we actually know what we are doing!
