Have worked at Danaher for 2 years

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsDanaher pays well and seems to have a lot of upward opportunity for high performing employees.
True company wide culture around DBS and really accepts and implements lean processes - there are a variety of training opportunities within the company and the corporate level employees are brilliant.

ConsDanaher is very demanding and can be a high stress environment. Sometimes the decisions that are made are more focused on the short term bottom line versus the long term success and sometimes at the expensive of the customer.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay in touch with your operating company level leadership and what they are doing. I think the corporate VPs should meet with middle managers at the operating company to get a better view of what is really going on and how customers are impacted.

Working as contract employee for 2+ years

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe corporate Danaher does not seem to mess around with the division level companies and obstruct their operational strategy/tactics (good thing) but provides reasonable structure and financial backing when needed.

ConsUnwilling to be flexible when it comes to things like vacation. Some methodologies in place (e.g. expenses) that seem very antiquated and cumbersome.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep allowing division-level independence with respect to operational tactics and allow more flexibility for unique division culture.

    Challenging - Training under fire

Senior Financial Analyst (Former Employee) Chicago, IL (US)

ProsThey leave you room to grow up in pay and responsibility when you start a job at Danaher. If you work for an acquired Danaher company be prepared to work hard and cut out wasted tasks (process improvement)

ConsMost of their systems don't talk to one another and yet detail reports are requested on demand.

Advice to Senior ManagementHigh paying chiefs are paid well, but sometimes it feels like there are not enough Indians.

Highly challenging and meritocratic but not warm and fuzzy.

    Finance Director (Former Employee)

ProsLots of opportunities to learn and grow professionally for self-starters with initiative and drive. Good comp and benefits. Smart, professional colleagues. Very disciplined, successful approach to operations and financial management.

ConsCost-cutting and layoffs are excessive and damaging to business health and employee morale. Very focused on short term results versus true growth. Human resources and IT are very low priorities. Don't look for lots of approbation. Poor at true innovation and creative marketing & sales strategies. Process (DBS) can become form over substance, and is not effective in some areas of the business.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlace a much higher value on the good people you have and demonstrate it. They will make you even more successful. You need to make "The Best Team Wins" a genuine cultural imperative, not just a hollow saying. As it is, employees view that "core value" as a bit of a joke.

If You Live to Work, This is Your Place

    General Manager (Current Employee)

ProsGreat opportunities if you're willing to sacrifice and work extremely hard. Will become a millionaire if you get in the equity program. Great business system and processes for most everything. If you can survive here, you can survive anywhere.

ConsProcesses aren't always followed. Quest for revenue growth leads to some questionable ethics and decisions. More politics than sr. leadership will admit to. No investment in facilities and work environment is poorly maintained. Not for everyone.

Advice to Senior ManagementDeploy some capital in the facilities and give people a place to work they can take pride in. You are losing customer focus by being overly concerned with short term financial results.

Great experience but can be a SHARK TANK!

    DBSL (Former Employee)

ProsMetric driven organization with high levels of accountablitly. Heavy focus on Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement. Upper management provides tools necessary to achieve goals.

ConsMetrics are everything at Danaher. They strive to make sure everyone knows the rules of the game and what both winning and losing looks like. However, if you are in a division that is suffering financially the game is impossible to win.

Advice to Senior ManagementBecome more involved with projects throughout the month and not just for montly reviews.

Danaher delivers on its promises to associates & customers

    Human Resources Manager (Current Employee)

ProsGreat focus on continuous improvement in a collegial, non-blaming environment. Great opportunities for career growth across the many companies Danaher owns. Wide variety of science, technology and environmental companies under the Danaher umbrella. Senior management is excellent. Lots of highly intelligent people in the company.

ConsSometimes the decentralized nature of the company means several operating companies are duplicating efforts. Like most publicly-traded companies there is an intense focus on meeting Wall Street's numbers each quarter.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue the focus on keeping the unique culture that makes Danaher great.
