I have been working at Express part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

In some other stores it might be different but my managers and sales leaders are absolutely great! It is a fast paced and competitive company that usually promotes from within. Associates start out at minimum wage and then work their way up. It would be a great place for someone to start out a career in retail. The work atmosphere is very fun and you get really good at talking with customers. If you are seriously considering a job here, when you get hired, study the informational booklets very thoroughly.

    Cons

In some of the larger stores, they have to do overnight floorsets which last the entire night (paid of course.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When training employees, show them everything they need to know from the time they clock on, to their sales floor duties, to the time they clock off. Offer more associate learning opportunities.

    Pros

Great training, leadership, and potential for growth! They treat their managers like family! Great base plus lots of incentives for bonuses, raises, etc. You work in a team environment and everyone has a common goal. Upper management want you to succeed and provide the tools to do so. There are always amazing discounts to the store and it's partner stores. This is a fashion forward company that you will be proud to be a part of!

    Cons

Must be results driven and willing to work long hours. Retail can take a toll on someone but if you are committed, you will make good $$.

I have been working at Express full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There is a ton of energy in all the stores and being able to work with people with the same fashion and passions makes work fun. There seems to always be an opportunity to move up or learn a new division of responsibility which makes consistent growth a plus.

    Cons

Minimum wage is expected at an entry level job however the tasks and energy needed for success here is more then that. Express needs to offer their associates above minimum wage to help keep associate retention.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Planning is difficult in this brand so being proactive versus reactive can be a challenge. My recommendations is to communicate to the store level in a more efficient and timely manner.
