Current Employee – been working at Gulfstream Aerospace full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Working as much with or around aircraft as you want. Great place to get a lot of experience quickly
Cons – Due to the work pace can be a little disorganized at times
Advice to Senior Management – Reward those that know what they are doing

Former Employee – worked at Gulfstream Aerospace full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Good benefits, competitive salary for the positions worked. Family atmosphere, excellent product line - nice to work at the "best in the business" company.
Cons – I personally got trapped in a position that made me "too important" to allow my desired career path. This happened to an entire team involved in a long term loan project, we came from different business groups and ended up being assigned for 5+ years to a single project. Over the life of that project we retained our job titles and pay grades, which varied widely - led to some resentment.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't trap good people in important, but ultimately dead end jobs!

Current Employee – been working at Gulfstream Aerospace full-time for less than a year
Pros – Fair compensation compared to other companies in the Savannah, GA area - you can actually live very comfortably and not paycheck to paycheck; paid weekly; and great training for new employees, to include more training and education options to enhance your current knowledge and improve your work performance.
Cons – Can be a pro and con; HR is highly selective of applicants which can be good in ensuring the company hires high-quality employees; the downfall to this is they prevent the hiring managers from being able to sort through some applicants that may be highly-desirable; at times they can be a little over the top! Let the hiring managers do some of the decision-making! Some people just look good on paper!
Advice to Senior Management – No advice yet, will post an update after my first 3-6 months!

Former Employee – worked at Gulfstream Aerospace full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – VERY good end products. Best in the industry.
Cons – Difficult environment if your looking for "best in class" processes.
Progress is slow when it comes to workplace technology.
IT is very much like Dilberts "technology inhibitors".
HR adds a lot of red tape to the hiring process. They somehow think that they know who you need better than you do as the hiring manager.
Advice to Senior Management – Get realistic about IT budgets and the need to invest in technology.

Current Employee – been working at Gulfstream Aerospace
Pros – You get to use your past knowledge and experience routinely. Plus, the learning never ends in Gulfstream due to the very nature of the business. The nature of work is highly interdisciplinary and very enjoyable and you are given the opportunity to excel.
Cons – Gulfstream needs to diversify and try to keep its work force as much as possible. They hire a lot of contractors who are highly talented. Their background and experience could be fully utilized if the management wants to. Allowing them to play a key role in the planning might help the organization in the long run. A lot of cross-polination can happen and that can help the organization diversify and make more money.
Advice to Senior Management – The management should see how the technology can be developed internally as much as possible and reduce the number of suppliers. A cost effective solution will be to give every employee a chance to grow within the organization and creating room for that development.

Former Employee – worked at Gulfstream Aerospace
Pros – Very casual work environment, great team dynamics, supportive upper management, and comfortable corporate culture. Great opportunity to advance and keep work and life balanced.
Cons – Female interns, don't be too friendly, it might be taken as flirtation
If you like structure, this might not be the place for you. Everyone is left to themselves most of the time to finish tasks

Former Employee – worked at Gulfstream Aerospace
Pros – Fantastic opportunity for job growth and advancement. Frontrunner in their industry so new projects and positions are always being developed. Lean six sigma manufacturing philosophies are highly utilized. 4-10 work weeks are in place in many areas of the company so no work most Fridays.
Cons – Some projects require extremely long hours and huge time commitments. May be required to cycle night shits for a couple days each month. Savannah may also be pretty unexciting for many people not used to smaller Southern cities.
Advice to Senior Management – Overall experience was extremely pleasant. Hard to articulate any particular improvements that could be made... position just may not have been right for me.

Current Employee – been working at Gulfstream Aerospace
Pros – Pros are the product is best in class, so everyone is proud to be a part of it. The way they structure the business, they dot get affected much by economy swings which means mostly everyone has job stability. The pay is not the greatest, but its pretty standard considering it is manufacturing. Management in most areas genuinely care about employees personal and professional well being and constantly encourage employee learning and development. Timings within manufacturing are 4 x 10 work-weeks which is pretty hard during the weekdays, but you get 3 days of weekend off to recharge, so its not so bad after all. People are great to work with. Also upper management is very knowledgeable and promotions for most part are given to qualified candidates only. So in summary, I would day a really good manufacturing company to work for.
Cons – Cons I would say are pretty much the same you find everywhere in American Manufacturing. Legacy systems, old practices which are hard to change, focus on lean without understanding lean completely, vertically oriented functioning with silo mentalities. A lot of focus and energy is spent on fire-fighting issues rather than fixing the process which is at the root of the issue. Also Savannah is a decent city, with some good beaches nearby, but its not the greatest place to be on earth. Also employees can use a bit more vacation time off.
Advice to Senior Management – Understand lean before trying to implement it. Migrate from a vertically oriented organization to a more horizontal functioning. Fix processes instead of issues. Empower the workers to play a much more active role in any improvement initiatives because they are the ones who touch the product hands on and have a wealth of knowledge. Also engineers/designers should spend more time working hands on with the product instead of just creating design models in offices.

Former Employee – worked at Gulfstream Aerospace
Pros – great for future resumes and good experience from tenured professionals that have been in the business a long time and know how to take care of customers professionally
Cons – aerospace industry is shakey, without tenure and invaluability expect to be in danger of layoffs when economy is down
Advice to Senior Management – Leadership from the top is honest

Current Employee – been working at Gulfstream Aerospace
Pros – Learning opportunities, growing organization. Good pay package and health benefits. Senior leadership cares about employees and are trust worthy. Overall a good organization.
Cons – Mediocre performance bonuses and pay raises, moving geographically is a challenge. Not a high volume manufacturing plant. Old practices do exist in certain areas.
Advice to Senior Management – They are down to earth, care about employees and well connected to the rest of the organization. Highly motivated and involved.
