    Pros

Loads of overtime. Lots of flexibility on your job for the day. Meet some nice people

    Cons

FAR too much attention paid to mystery customers. FAR too many instances of workplace politics. LOW standards of English among staff. TONS of favouritism which jeopardises your ability to progress.

    Advice to Management

Stop paying so much attention to mystery customers, pay some attention to the staff, it wouldn't hurt!

    Pros

Great team, nice company, pleasant work environment.

    Cons

Incompetent management on some levels. 10% discount after 6 months, not very exciting. Just another retailer.

    Advice to Management

Get better management training as on some levels incompetency reaches down to the workers who suffer at the hands of morons.

    Pros

Loved this job when I started at Christmas time, kept me busy, fit and met lots of new people. Friendly colleagues.

    Cons

Will not be accommodating if you want a change of contract, will suggest something ridiculous in it's place. Nice enough people but a lot of drama, suppose its the same in many work places. Will pick on you for the tiniest uniform/appearance flaws. Bought my own trousers as had problems with the fit of the given ones - they were virtually the same but I was pulled up by HR. Clearly got their priorities wrong! Very doubtful I was causing much distress to the general public and there had been no complaint.

Will never tell you how well you are doing or thank you for the hard work, not even at Christmas or any other public holidays. For paying their employees nothing and offering only 10% discount to staff is slightly insulting as well. Took them half a year to till train me. Still amen't allowed to shift the cardboard bailer over and press a button because I need trained to do this apparently.

Large divide between staff and management - a hierarchy based on absolutely nothing. Departmental managers do not get paid significantly more than the general staff, therefore there is no room for this strange retail class system.

Please note, these views are based on my store - this is not necessarily the case for Sainsburys across the country.

    Pros

Good discounts on own shopping. Flexible hours available, to be taken over both night and day shifts. Cashiers have little responsibilities in thier role.

    Cons

Duties are boring: scanning goods through tills, watching customers scan thier own goods, stacking shelves, stocktaking, etc. Wages often calculated wrong. Minimal training in transferable skills.

    Advice to Management

Cashiers could benefit from better training.
