Great company with great products and great ethics

Staff (Current Employee) Anaheim, CA (US)

ProsFor a commissioned agent, Mass Mutual is the company to work for. You work for Mass Mutual directly. Great commissions and benefits. Great product line up and a very high premium placed on ethics.

ConsCompany works on a General Agency basis. Each office is in affect a franchise and each General Agent has leeway in how he or she operates. The GA definitely sets the tone of the office. If you looking at Mass Mutual you should definitely interview with different GAs (there are three in the Los Angeles / Orange County area). Also, staff positions works for the GA, not the company. Therefore salary and benefits can vary greatly from office to office.

Advice to Senior ManagementLocal staff should have access to home office benefits. (Note - the city listed below is not the actual city. Don't want to give away my office).

    My experience was outstanding.

Financial Professional (Former Employee) Portland, OR (US)

ProsThe training was superb and in depth. Daily training sessions on everything from proper communication rto marketing strategies. The office atmosphere will vary depending on location, but for my office I felt at home immediately. There is a team mentality that contributed to my success.

ConsLike any financial services position based on commission it does get difficult to maintain consistency. You just have to have the patience/resources to put in the time to succeed, because immediate success is very rare.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue being involved in the lives of your employees. It worked thus far.

I had an outstanding experience at MassMutual in Houston

Financial Advisor (Former Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsThe support system at the Houston office is second to none. The managers empower the employees to achieve great results through coaching sessions, online training and more.

ConsThe industry is a make or break, but if you make it, you want to do it with MassMutual in Houston.

Great for Macro Financial Planning, Doesn't Pigeon-Hole Clients into Investments Only

Financial Advisor (Current Employee) Walnut Creek, CA (US)

ProsFrom the outset, I have been most impressed with the quality of people in this organization. The advisors here truly care about their clients and give advice freely. I've never seen that until I came to MassMutual.

ConsIf you aren't ready to run a business and the risks associated with it, don't join.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep continuing with the mentorship programs. Have more bonding events for new hires.

    Great Company with unlimited opportunity

Recruiting Intern (Current Employee) Chicago, IL (US)

ProsI started out as a Recruiting Intern and was offered a full time opportunity. My support team was amazing. I assisted the Executive Recruiting Director and Recruiting Director on human resource activities and daily recruiting duties. I learned strong and weak points about myself that have benefited my progress with the company. I have grown educationally as well as professionally working with Hoopis leadership team and partners.

ConsThe company is still in the development process so their is a lot of change to adapt to.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to assist your agents, interns, and staff in bettering themselves and you will always have a dedicated team of workers

Great culture of support and high performance

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFrom the very second you walk into the office, there is a welcoming environment. You immediately feel that people are happy and that every single person matters in the organization. The core values of the company are growth, personal responsibility and work-life balance and it is clear that the company takes those seriously.

ConsOne thing to consider when working for the company as an advisor is there isn't a base pay. This can be very much seen as a pro or con. Pro being there is unlimited income potential with great benefits and for people that are high achievers, they will thrive in an environment like that. Con being you do need to have some savings when you first start to make sure you can survive the first couple months in the off-chance you don't get a commission check right away.

They focus on ensuring your success.

Financial Professional (Current Employee) Minneapolis, MN (US)

ProsTraining is very comprehensive. The support team is willing and able to answer any questions you have, both while learning and when fully experienced. Everyone in each regional office seems to support one another in other offices if they are dealing with business there.

ConsNot a whole lot of guaranteed pay, if any, for some positions. There is a whole lot of information and techniques to learn to fully do job task, but to the motivated individuals, this is no problem.
