    Challenging but positive.

Senior Business Leader (Former Employee) Singapore (Singapore)

ProsProfitable. Good salary. Interesting mix of Financial Services Sector and Technology Sector issues. Growing business / sector.

ConsToo many pre-IPO legacy issues which permeate the company's DNA. Brand suffers against Visa's dominant position (a similar comparison is Pepsi versus Coke's dominance). Payments is a very 'quirky' sector which retains a seemingly large proportion of quirky behaviours / styles. Very US-centric management.

    Great benefits!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe company has very good benefits. With the new CEO, the culture within the organization has been changing for the good.

ConsAny ideas suggested usually goes through all levels for approval which could be hindrance at times. Incompetent leadership in some roles are stagnating the growth in their areas.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to embrace an open culture by giving opportunities to high performers.

Project Manager (Current Employee) Saint Louis, MO (US)

ProsPay and benefits are amazing but it comes at a cost. The culture isn't for everyone.

ConsCulture can be extremely fast paced & cut-throat. Also a very cold place to work focused on results only.

ProsNice office location at Purchase, great cafeteria. Offices could use updating - its like a step back into the 70's

ConsLike most large firms it doesnt live what it preaches. Poor management skills are tolerated if the person is senior because it would cost to much to fire them but people further down the food chain are expendable. If you have tenure you are less likely to be fired for poor performance but instead shuffled around the company into a new role

Challenging Work; Crazy Environment; No Management Support

Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee) O'Fallon, MO (US)

ProsThe work was challenging; I was never bored. The on-site facilities (fitness center, cafeteria, company store) are new and well maintained. The 401(k) plan is 100% matched up to 6% of the employee salary: that's unheard of! The recent annual bonus and profit sharing amounts have been generous.

ConsNever got a chance to be proactive. The project was based on 2 third-party software applications that were over-customized to perform tasks it was never originally intended to perform. The original installation was held together with Unix shell scripts and manual efforts assigned to the off-shore development team. Further enhancements continue to strain these delicately-balanced fixes. Immediate project management only got involved during a system incident (which occurred nearly monthly); otherwise, they were nowhere to be seen or heard from. Promotions did not appear to be merit-based, but whether you were a part of the good old boy network. Newer cubicles are now smaller: in my area, an aisle of 15 cubicles were resized to 19 cubicles.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper level managers are very intelligent and have well defined goals. Unfortunately, the lower level managers have no idea how to implement these goals within their fiefdoms. They continue to rule with their heads in the sand until someone comes along and kicks them in their butt or they are forced to leave.

    Software Engineer

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) Dublin, Dublin (Ireland)

    Pros- Lovely office
    - very friendly and helpful colleagues
    - flexibility to work from home is great
    - decent enough salary and benefits
    - lots of scope for learning

    Cons- long hours
    - antiquated and dysfunctional release process
    - not developer friendly e.g. machines are sub-standard, no admin access on own laptop
    - lack of recognition for extra work

Advice to Senior ManagementStart recognizing employees for their extra work
Make the promotion process more transparent

    Project Manager

Project Manager (Current Employee) Saint Louis, MO (US)

ProsOverall a good company to work. Excellent benefits. Great CEO.

ConsLots of internal politics. Manager act like a demi-god and they can make or break your career.

    Good workplace for the enterprising

Technical Consultant (Current Employee) Saint Louis, MO (US)

ProsWhat you learn is only limited by your drive to learn. Flexible schedules are a perk. Benefits are competitive. Strong technology focus on the core network enables value added products to be developed.

ConsBureaucracy in middle management inhibits productivity. Need to create better alignment to vision communicated by executive leadership. Software Development culture not quite state of the art - no vision in procuring the right tools to do the job.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire better talent and create an environment where they succeed. Stop the cover your ass culture.

This company is a good company. Their new shared services is a nightmare

Accounts Payable Temp (Current Employee) O'Fallon, MO (US)

ProsThe company pays better than market to their employees. The time off policy is very generous. The O
Fallon building has many perks for the employee.

ConsThe culture and the actual environment are totally different. MasterCard HR tries to promote work/life balance. Putting the employees first. The actuality is long hours, overworked staff, and a hostile work environment. Management is worried about covering themselves and showing up others so they look good with no regard to the result of the dept. or other employees trying to do their best.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview the business leader and above in the GBSC transaction services and replace with competent leadership.
