    Pros

Potential to make a difference to the way value gets exchanged

    Cons

MasterCard is a pretty slow company as far as decision making is concerned. People do not necessarily perform, and leaders do not necessarily seek performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A great CEO by himself cannot hope to change the company. It's important to have leaders who share similar vision and passion to execute.

I worked at MasterCard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Relatively good compensation compared to local market
    Nice working atmosphere
    Relatively generous benefits

    Cons

Country managers rule as medieval kings in their countries
At MasterCard Advisors there are mostly senior consultants and no juniors to perform the non-value added part of job
    Very fluctuating quality of consultants

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to overhaul MasterCard Advisors and make it more siimilar to top-tier consulting companies such as McKinsey, BCG, etc.

I worked at MasterCard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Profitable. Good salary. Interesting mix of Financial Services Sector and Technology Sector issues. Growing business / sector.

    Cons

Too many pre-IPO legacy issues which permeate the company's DNA. Brand suffers against Visa's dominant position (a similar comparison is Pepsi versus Coke's dominance). Payments is a very 'quirky' sector which retains a seemingly large proportion of quirky behaviours / styles. Very US-centric management.

    Pros

The company has very good benefits. With the new CEO, the culture within the organization has been changing for the good.

    Cons

Any ideas suggested usually goes through all levels for approval which could be hindrance at times. Incompetent leadership in some roles are stagnating the growth in their areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to embrace an open culture by giving opportunities to high performers.

    I worked at MasterCard

    Pros

Nice office location at Purchase, great cafeteria. Offices could use updating - its like a step back into the 70's

    Cons

Like most large firms it doesnt live what it preaches. Poor management skills are tolerated if the person is senior because it would cost to much to fire them but people further down the food chain are expendable. If you have tenure you are less likely to be fired for poor performance but instead shuffled around the company into a new role
