    Excellent experience

Research Intern (Former Employee) Beijing, Beijing (China)

ProsWorked at Microsoft Research in China. The company knows how to provide a great work environment. Excellent help from co-workers too.

ConsPerhaps better coordination between team members. I really can't think of anything else.

    A good big company

Software Development Engineer Intern (Current Employee) Beijing, Beijing (China)

Prosall things are well scheduled and regular meetings are hold. All things are doing step by step and finally successfully finish.

ConsThere is no individual heroism, what works is the system, not a specific employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive the entry software more challenges to help them grow.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Microsoft Research Intern

Research Intern (Former Employee) Redmond, WA (US)

ProsFocus on research projects, renowned researchers, well-designed intern programs, many opportunities working with very famous researchers. Researchers can extract papers from your projects even if they are not much successful.

ConsEven though you showed good performance, the company does not given any offer. You can only obtain publication, chances to expand your research connections, and some salary (which is slightly better than other companies).

Advice to Senior ManagementVery flexible, free, you may work at home, and you can work in anywhere you want.

Great benefits and people if you can find them

User Experience Design Intern (Current Employee) Redmond, WA (US)

ProsPay, stability, work/life balance (big corp, not held too accountable for much), Seattle-based, working with some tech legends

ConsLack of culture, feels stale, they're changing things up but there's only a few groups that have a great culture and you have to know what you want beforehand to get yourself there. Little impact, waterfall methods. Median age 40+

Great place to pass an internship

Services Intern (Current Employee) Santa Fe, NM (US)

Pros+ Lots of opportunities to participate in big projects
+ Get to work with people around the globe
    + Great pay
+ Unique opportunity to see the hundreds of careers that are out there !

Cons- There is not a well structured plan for interns
    - You need to look for other projects to learn more, as an intern you're underestimated and your tasks will be somewhat limited or "easy"
    - Several managers intervene with your activities and responsibilities which is confusing

Advice to Senior ManagementDefine a plan for interns and do not underestimate them !

    Positive

Marketing Intern (Current Employee) Mississauga, ON (Canada)

ProsGreat company to have on your resume. Very supportive co-workers, lots of opportunity for growth, and always something exciting to work on.

ConsAt times I feel out of the loop on a lot of things, which makes it difficult to do my job. A few internal services don't always work, and some subscriptions literally took a year for me to receive (employee MSDN).

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep on keeping on. The company is heading in the right direction, the values are solid, just need to keep working at it and improve the little things.

A big company with little pay to intern

    Great place for research

Research Intern (Former Employee) Cambridge, East of England, England (UK)

ProsThe company culture was fun, coffee was great and you could talk and collaborate with numerous world-class researchers in machine learning, algorithms, networks, and so on. My boss was extremely knowledgeable and always open to new ideas. The pay was more than enough for me.

ConsCambridge is a rather small city and housing is expensive. Also, the jobs in research can potentially have less security as they are the first ones to go if the company is in trouble.
