Great Company...Client Focused. Good career opportunity especially if you plan to work in the middle America market.

Financial Representative (Current Employee) Madison, MS (US)

ProsFraternal Company, Good Training for New Representatives, Very Good Corporate Citizen, Supports Representatives Giving Back to Community, Defined Benefit Plan Funded by Company, Excellent Medical & Dental Plans, 401K

ConsNot as much support for seasoned representatives...more focused on newer reps, Relatively low commission rates compared to industry however benefits are good, Annual "Incentive" trip is basically a glorified sales meeting usually in a great location but the time is filled with meetings.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize that established reps need support too, Reduce amount of time spent in meetings at annual conference or stop making reps qualify, Promoting as many Regional Directors as possible doesn't make sense...they aren't the ones producing. Reduce the number of management in the field and increase agent compensation/bonus.

Good company to work for, hard business to succeed in.

    Financial Representative (Former Employee)

ProsQuality values, they want you to succeed, and their fraternal benefits are a great selling point.

ConsTheir name recognition is substantially less than Edward Jones or any of the other big guys. There was very little training in the first three months.

Advice to Senior ManagementEstablish a training program within a month of hiring a new Financial Representative.

Modern Woodmen is a solid employer with good benefits and a strong training program

Financial Representative (Former Employee) Irvine, CA (US)

ProsOne of the highest ratings for a financial services company.

ConsOld workforce drives up the cost of health benefits.

Have acheived many goals while at this company.

    Financial Representative (Current Employee)

ProsFraternalism, financially strong company, agents are active members of local communities, opportunity to make a real difference in people's lives with the financial products and advice we provide, ability to control scheduling and maintain work life balance, Good benefits... includes medical, rx, disability & dental insurance and retirement.

ConsHome office focuses on Management, especially at Regional level instead of sales reps, limited access to underwriters, no vision plan offered, low commissions, limited ongoing training for seasoned reps, limited advancement opportunities.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave fewer regions and invest the money saved into sales force and managing partners who work recruit, train, and work with reps...examples: Fund admin positions in larger district offices to provide agent support, many of these are producing more than a lot of regions and increase agent commissions.

    Financial Representative (Former Employee)

ProsGood people and decent bonuses and incentives to sale

ConsStraight commission sales could use more products

Advice to Senior ManagementN/A.....pretty good people and managers overall

Good place to provide real value to others in your community.

Financial Representative (Former Employee) Rock Island, IL (US)

ProsExcellent reputation in communities. Meaningful Fraternal benefits to members.

ConsNot always competitive on premium rates and product selection.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess focus on management and more focus on the sales force. Too many Regions that produce next to nothing for the company. Resources allocated to Regional Managers do not directly impact or benefit sales force. Reduce # of Regions and use those funds to support agents through better HO service, and admin assistance in Managing Partner's offices.

not for me, but for anybody looking into financial services there isnt a better company

Intern (Former Employee) Austin, TX (US)

Prosno ceiling. Chance to really make a difference in people's lives, not just make money. Community service. Great and supportive work atmosphere.

ConsNo ceiling but also no floor since it is all commission based. Not a well known company and its not for profit so at the beginning there is a lot of cold calling.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is always there and can be relied upon. Management people also started right where everybody else did so they always know exactly what you are going through.

If you are attracted to this field of work there is no better place to build from then Modern Woodmen.

    Agent (Current Employee)

ProsMWA is a Fraternal organization with terrific customer loyalty. They have a very solid training program. Their benefits are terrific, especially their health insurance program.

ConsYou are paid on by commission, which, for the self-motivated, is actually a plus. It is a big consideration for most folks and should not be taken lightly.

    a wonderful experiance

    Financial Representative (Current Employee)

ProsFreedom to set your own schedule and run your own business the way you wish. You are your own boss!

ConsCompensation is not all that great but it's also a very hard position right now with the loss of jobs

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on the financial planning for reps and less on insurance. Modern Woodmen is known as a life insurance company and not a financial services company.
