Former Employee – worked at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Benefits...which most companies offer - health, dental,401k plan etc. There is a possibility of being ok if you manage to get in a "decent department" under decent management.
Cons – -Good old boys club in management - been at PG&E for years, but are not skilled or competant
-HR sides with management, so they can do whatever they want to you - harass, bully, unfair -evaluations, illegitimate demotions, discrimination, held hostage in your job when you want to transfer
Penalties for management when they do all the above are "getting a coach" or watching a video
-Excessive Top layers while cutting layers at the bottom, the ones at the bottom do all the work!. Thus most employees are overworked because they are doing not one, but two or three jobs.
-A whole bunch of re-orgs for no reason, Old school atmosphere, less advanced programs
*Older employees have voiced there suffering in this environment but hold on to hope to "start living" when they retire.
Advice to Senior Management – Legal intervention will cost the company greatly, so try to remain in compliance with company's policies and laws.

Current Employee – been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time for more than a year
Pros – None.
The employee benefits are not even that good, stop lying to yourself. Please go work in another utility and see for yourself.
Cons – 1. No equality in pay across different lines of business
2. No equality in promotional opportunities
3. Poor communication amongst all levels
4. Bureaucracy makes it impossible to get things done
5. Please stop with the "do more with less non-sense". The company is not efficient enough to do more with less. How about fire some of those useless directors, then we can actually have money to hire people that can actually do the work!
6. The directors and above do not know what they are doing, please evaluate their competency and value to the company
Advice to Senior Management – The recent changes are not enough. The company needs to look at how, where, and when, the money is spent. If any senior executive is looking at this, please reduce the layers, why do we have VP, Sr. Dir, Dir, Sr. Mgr, Mgr, and Sup? Why is some line of business with more layer than others? What is the value of those directors that do not do anything but sit around? The best way to see who is adding value is to talk to the employees and ask them. If you ask genuinely, they will tell you.

Current Employee – been working at Pacific Gas and Electric
Pros – None. Government-like job at best.
Cons – You can probably get away with sleeping under your desk and still collect your paycheck. Great place to work if you want absolute zero job satisfaction or fulfillment. It is shocking how much employees here make compared to the private industry.

Cons – Middle management presents a significant barrier to changing corporate culture. Current corporate culture and organizational structure that makes it a challenge to deliver results and recognize employees that do good work.

Pros – Benefits, salary, and that is all!!!
Cons – Really too numerous to list. The most backword, dishonest, unethical, and deeply immoral company I've seen in a long time!!!
