    Pros

Decent Benefits Compared to Most Companies; Newly Hired Less Benefits Than Older Employees

    Cons

    Capricious Management, Employees, and Customers

    Advice to Management

Do More "Soft Skills" Training for All; Make New Hires Have Better Benefits As Older; No "Two Teir"

    Pros

    Great benefits and work-life balance.

    Cons

Layers upon layers of bureaucracy. No room for creativity due to risk-averse culture and business model of a regulated utility.

Impossible to talk to anyone to get answers because everyone is always unavailable in meetings.

    Pros

Feelings about the company as a whole are very positive and there are a huge amount of opportunities within the company if you are ambitious and happy to move around. There are many development & training opportunities. If you are happy to stay put in a particular job as well, there are lots of folks doing just that. There is a feeling over working towards a valuable goal (providing energy to the bay area) and many of the employees are generous, friendly and helpful. HR will tell you your pay bracket if you ask after an offer. Pays well for certain fields, but not as well for others.

    Cons

Politics are huge. The other comment on how evals & STIP are done is true, which can be frustrating. The hardest workers and biggest producers are not always rewarded. It often feels like the directors are trying to further their own careers at the expense of yours. Messages from upper management are overwhelming and inconsistent and hard to enforce. RDO, telecommuting, & flexible schedule options for management employees are talked about a lot, but offered inconsistently and not generally the norm. At every level, the focus is up at the next level of management, and not down towards employees. In many departments, there are very few women in leadership positions. Women are offered lower pay, less promotional opportunities and are often treated as second class citizens.

    Advice to Management

If you want young talented workers, be more flexible, or you will lose out especially as the economy heats up. Focus on employee engagement over metrics (quality work will follow). Use feedback to get results rather than just collecting it.

    Pros

Hard working and trusting colleagues, competitve conpensation. Work assignments and responsibilites can be very interesting and challenging. Company supports Six Sigma.

    Cons

Odd/chaotic/contradicting management style. Worked for and along with Business finance and operational managers/director/vp who displayed poor management and direction. Witnessed much selfish and cutthroat behavior for petty wins and ego at the cost of productivity and trust.

    Advice to Management

Advice to Board - seek opportunities to divest the gas and electricity businesses. I have been through this divesting process with an international electric Utility company which resulted in a positive impact for all stakeholders: shareholders, customers, suppliers, employees, and regulators.

    Pros

Smart, motivated co-workers who are truly committed to the customer.

    Cons

Because it's a big company, things can be difficult to get done. Also, work life balance in certain departments can be very tough.

    Pros

Other great people who are trying to scale energy efficiency
    Biggest energy efficiency portfolio
    Great office location
    Good work/life balance
    Sit/stand desks

    Cons

Regulated utility (and the regulators leave something to be desired)
Great at acquiring good talent, but not so good at keeping it
    Meetings, meetings, meetings
Mediocre middle management- they love to promote good individual contributors but not good leaders

    Advice to Management

Promote the real leaders, not the ones who "manage up" but are really only good individual contributors
Work on employee engagement and actually care about it
Try to be more innovative or you might look back in a few years and find that disruptive technologies and nimble companies took your business while you were busy in a meeting

    Pros

Compensation OK, parking is expensive but BART is a good option for many. Although there have been numerous promotions during the last 3 years the employees

    Cons

Training is almost non-existent, tribal knowledge is the norm. Every month or so, the management team is facilitating a re-org and is more focused on where they'll end up at as opposed to working with their direct reports.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your offices and interact with your teams and provide the much needed training. Procurement department does not have adequate process documentation in order to ensure the best deals are being realized for California.
Benefits are comparable to that of other energy companies.
