Pros – Nice co-workers, happy customers, flexible schedule, decent part-time pay. Online scheduling system makes it easy to request off and check time sheets. Company gives random sales incentive bonuses, holiday gifts and a five year bonus! Nice perks for a part-time job!

Cons – Stock room is always a mess and is hard to get any merchandise out.

Advice to Senior Management – Please keep the gossiping between the management, do not involve the co-workers.

Pros – Customers rave about their shopping experience, they love shopping there! Fun music, great co-workers, for the most part a very positive working enviroment. Don't forget that awesome employee discount !

Cons – It is a very physical job, you are really earning your money, there is pressure to preform but that is with any sales position.

Advice to Senior Management – Nurture those stand out employees, so that they may advance in the company. Let them know they are appreciated. A compliment goes a long way in making an employee feel they are truly integral in making the store a success!

Pros – You get to work with a variety of people; whether it be coworkers or customers
you learn a lot about the merchandise as you work there, and a lot of it is very interesting
Unlike the competitors (Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn), Pier 1 stuff is very colorful and unique

Cons – It can take time to move up within the company, and you have to usually be able to transfer to other stores in order to move up
A lot of managers try to low ball with hourly pay (though Pier 1 does pay above min wage), you have to have the courage to ask for something higher
They really push to achieve their goals for the Credit Card we endorse.

Advice to Senior Management – Understand there are good weeks and bad week with results of sales and Credit Card openings

Cons – highly concentrated mostly female environment which can be catty and petty
difficult time with competitive wages for employees apart from management

Advice to Senior Management – Work with your staff to earn their respect, loyalty, and trust. Don't be afraid to develop them and make them as good as you are it will pay off for everyone in the long run. Reach out to your customer base and be honest with them. They will reward you with their loyalty when you go the extra mile.

Pros – The retail environment is one that fosters growth in superb customer service. Every customer who walks in the door is acknowledged, and as an associate, one's duty is to meet their needs. The Pier 1 experience for employees is one of satisfaction for serving customers.

Cons – Unfortunately, the room for growth is relative to the store size. Upper management is not focused enough on growing their retail employees in terms of rank; only in terms of service to the customer.

Pros – There is a lot of variety in day to day activities and workload. There is always something new happening and the job is never dull. The company values employee feedback and is always working to improve processes. Store managers are not mico-managed. There is some room for creativity and initiative is recognized.

Cons – It is a very physically demanding job, lots of walking and heavy lifting, very little sitting. There is a very broad assortment of merchandise in relatively small space that can be difficult to deal with. To be truly successful a GM needs to work long hours. Compensation is relatively is low and associate retention is a challenge.

Pros – Amazing coworkers and customers make this job one of the best I've ever had. The items we sell also keep me entertained daily, so much to look at and learn about! 25% discount is awesome too.

Cons – The pay isn't that great compared to other places. Transition is awful especially when you have to be there until 4am the next morning. Having to shove the card down everyones throats is annoying too.

Advice to Senior Management – Don't micromanage. Hire people who you know will be able to do the job without you watching their back every second.
