I have been working at Pier 1 Imports

    Pros

Definitely a fun environment, the people here are amazing and it's always exciting to see what new product comes in.

    Cons

Unfortunately, you're not really guaranteed hours and when you do work, you're doing tons of work for not much pay. When it's no longer the Christmas season, only you and 1 manager are working the entire store, cash wrap, cleaning, greeting, checking back with customers, doing projects, etc. And all in a 4-5 hour shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have at least 3 people working at a time to help productivity on the floor.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The best part of my job was working with my team of associates. Its a fun fast paced environment and the merchandise is always changing. There is room to move up in the company but only to a certain point. Pay is poor at first but if you show your worth you will be paid fairly. At the end of the day it is retail.

    Cons

Back to career adavancement, moving from sales associate to assistant manager can be done quickly. However, their is a backlog of people waiting for the store manager role and if your goal isn't to be the store manager, you're in over your head. Getting to the corporate office is pretty much impossible if you start in the store. Plus the holidays, you will miss out on family gatherings I GURANTEE it. You may not work THanksgiving but you will be there every weekend from Thanksgiving-January.

No commision, can't tell you the number of times I sold over $2000 worth of merchandise to a customer and didn't see an extra penny.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Goodluck. Worst Holiday season I ever had was this past year. Majority of merchandise was not arriving on-time and missed out on sales because of it.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I love that they work with everyone's availability and that I'm lucky enough to work with people who are understanding and will cover shifts for me when I need it. There are so many tasks to do here. You're never stuck behind a register everyday for the entire duration you work here. I love the short part time shifts that last anywhere from 4 - 6 hours, especially the early shifts that get you out of work at 10am and you have the entire day to yourself. You have so many items to work with. Paid holidays. Very willing to work with you when you need time off. Discount is 25%, even on clearance.

    Cons

The usual customers that come in are very rude with too much money in their hands. They look down on you and expect you to treat them differently than other customers just because they're buying a $1200 couch.
Speaking of money, $8 /hr is ridiculous for the amount of work that we do. Especially when I've had past management experience. You expect us to move mountains for very little pay.
Freight can be a mess. Especially around transition times and the company doesn't send you what you really need. These stores need bigger stockrooms, immediately. The dress code is boring, and ridiculous as some points. We've been told that we need to wear dress code when unloading freight. Have you ever carried couches and 50+ lbs boxes in heels or work flats for 4 straight hours?
The credit card training needs to get turned down a notch. Their answer to customers who say no is, push push push. The training videos are lies, showing people saying okay to cards after a simple, "But you need it." Then associates get distraught when they don't get the required amount and it's stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is to higher-up management in the company.
Send us the right products on time. Please consider raising the minimum pay, we do everything to keep your businesses running. Credit cards aren't everything.

    I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time

    Pros

My coworkers were all really awesome and I generally had a good time at work.

    Cons

The management was too tough for the pay. I wasn't really interested in the competitiveness of the credit card thing. No one was ever really interested in the card and I sometimes felt really annoying pushing it on people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Calm down on the credit cards - it pushes customers away and makes your sales associates feel annoying.
