I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Working for pier one was pretty great! A Sales associate worked 4 hours shifts so it was conducive to my busy school schedule

    Cons

Being a seasonal worker, however, meant you worked everything, Also, the culture of persuading every single customer to open a store card felt dishonest and exhausting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think management did a really great job of keeping the associate motivated and excited.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I love working with the customers & assisting making their homes look amazing, I love learning about the handcrafted items, love merchandising everything (literally) easy pos system ( I didn't get to do the training).

    Cons

Heavy lifting, radical hours shifts, 6am-11am or 10pm-3am, four hour shifts, little raises (mine was $0.12)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

4 hours a week is almost unemployment, too many managers per store, staff needs an app to certify time card please!

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great seasonally. Worked mostly in a stock position & was definitely accommodated by being shifted into the roles I felt suited myself. The store manager that hired me was awesome. Benefits offered to all employees. Not a lot of pressure in a retail environment, just how it should be.

    Cons

No communication of daily goals or real pressure to sell. Some employees were mediocre at best, & as long as there was a body to fill the space there was no coaching of bad behavior. At the time, the schedule system was the worst & didn't work on my mac based computer (hopefully that's remedied by now). The corporate situation was awful - district manager being rude to acting assistant store manager, telling her to not even bother to apply for the official position because she had no chance (after thinking on the fly for over a year in her acting asm role).

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

You're able to work and not worry about drama because everyone is pretty chill overall. No drama, great respect and kindness shown. Also a pretty good employee discount.

    Cons

Sometimes you can feel overwhelmed with the amount of merchandise that you are expected to have out on the floor and realistically there is no room for it. Systems aren't very reliable when it comes to how much there is inventory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be good for management to evaluate more on the tasks they want someone to have done. And to be a bit more reasonable and considerate to the amount of space there actually is available and the amount of merchandise that is received in store, along with keeping in mind the customers and what kind of customer we have in the area. What product would that area of customers be more drawn to buy.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports

    Pros

Definitely a fun environment, the people here are amazing and it's always exciting to see what new product comes in.

    Cons

Unfortunately, you're not really guaranteed hours and when you do work, you're doing tons of work for not much pay. When it's no longer the Christmas season, only you and 1 manager are working the entire store, cash wrap, cleaning, greeting, checking back with customers, doing projects, etc. And all in a 4-5 hour shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have at least 3 people working at a time to help productivity on the floor.
