I have been working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The pipeline is exciting and the people are friendly.

    Cons

The company processes are lacking and communication between groups is poor. The management cares more about getting products into the clinic then making processes more efficient and the lives of employees easier. The company also has an over-inflated opinion of itself and is not open to process improvement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage innovation, listen to new ideas, and facilitate rather than stifle communication. It would be nice if the company lived its stated core values (Regeneron 5) rather than the values being a running joke. It's amazing how fast we can move drugs through the pipeline but how slow we are when it comes to addressing employee concerns.

I have been working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The salaries are decent and the benefits are good. You could get lost for hours and nobody would never know you went missing. Nice facility and the building has a shuttle to and from Metro-North. You can always find free food from some lunch meeting (that's if you like picked-over food.)

    Cons

The company doesn't have their act together. Agenda's aren't produced for meetings until 5 minutes prior to start time. If you're an Admin, don't consider this your job life. The assistants are treated like garbage. Very slow interview process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a better dental plan; it's amazing how all the other benefits are good but the dental is the worst. Managers should go through a training program. Everyone should be treated equal, it's amazing what people get away with working there.
Work/Life balance is promoted here. However, you figure out that doesn't exist after being an employee within the first five minutes.

    I worked at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals

    Pros

Some good people; excellent pipeline; upper mgt exceptional in gaining funding and promoting R&D

    Cons

Upper mgt dislikes Clin Ops, pay is low Schleifer is proud of his 'challenging envirnoment' which in this case means drive them till they drop, threaten- don't encourage or supprt, and let them drop at their desks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some experienced managers in Clin Ops, listen to them and let them manage.

I have been working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals

    Pros

great science, many agents in pipeline, good deal making skills by senior management, always attempting to get drugs into clinical as soon as possible

    Cons

dictatorial management, total micro-management, virtual leadership, poor communication of decisions made by senior management, little acknowledgement of accomplishments, no trust of employees,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Delegate more responsibility, empower employees, develop formal lines of communication, adopt best industry practices, spend more time developing a strategic vision of company and less time micro-managing employees, trust the experts you have hired, don't take as manay short-cuts

I have been working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals

    Pros

Good science, good work life balance, and good people with promising product lines. However, the ultimate test is yet to be seen.

    Cons

Mediocre salary, benefits, advancement for non-PhD's. There is defined barrier between PhD's and advance non-PhD's (university-like environment). Little to non business communication from upper management to the little guys (non-PhD's).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more competitive salary, benefits, advancement opportunities for non-PhD's.

I have been working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals

    Pros

People are generally good. Within my limited knowledge, I don't know of any back-stabbing per se.
Pay is decent but could be better given the high living cost for the location. Benefits are good, but less than it initially looks as paid time off is combined with sick days. I rarely use sick days, but it would be nicer to know there is a bigger pool of them should I need them in an emergency.

I think the work environment may be better/more exciting in the research division, though they are also more vulnerable in the event of layoffs.

If you prefer a lack of structure/direction, this could be the place for you.

The company is rock solid stable - at least until 2012, when the big deal with Sanofi could end.

    Cons

Communication is lacking. This is perhaps because the company has not adapted to its recent growth spurt and thinks it's still really small, that information will reach people by diffusion. It does, but this is very inefficient. Clear communication of goals would be nice.

Despite the talk and credos, innovation, at least in my area, is discouraged and things are done "as they have been done historically". I am still trying to figure out what these ways are, as they are not communicated.

Don't be surprised if you go between weeks of being insanely overworked to weeks of insane boredom. Workload is essentially unplanned and not managed.

The company probably will have layoffs when the current big deal with Sanofi ends. And at that point, there will be no shortage of vulnerable people because the solution to problems seems to be hire more people rather than organize, work smarter, or upgrade technology.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You've grown, and your organization should grow also, especially communication at the middle and lower functional levels that may be invisible to you. There are those that would love to give a lot more but are hindered by a lack of communication channels. Cater to would-be star performers, or you'll be just left with those that are there for the sake of economic stability.
