Interview Details The hiring process was long, drawn out, and unorganized. The amount of time it took to finally get hired was out of control. And there was very little description of salary ahead of time. That came later where there was little room for negotiation. Interviews were awkward and the questions asked were not related to the job itself.

Interview Details Hiring process took several months with multiple interviews. As with many academic institutions, consensus matters among the interviewers and you need to be a strong cultural fit more than anything. Since people in the interview process were not from Career Services, there were more generiic questions versus "technical" questions related to the inner workings of career services. Tell us about yourself? Why are you interested in us and this position? How do you go about building relationships? What are your weaknesses? What are you most proud of?
Interview Question – Tell me something we should know about you that is not on your resume? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – HR gives offer and will have negotiation discussions. The BU policy requires that hiring managers do give offers or negotiate - it must be handled by HR.
No Offer – Interviewed in Boston, MA (US) Sep 2012 – Reviewed Sep 25, 2012
Interview Details All development positions are posted on the BU development website, however through informational interviews I landed a direct interview with the hiring manager. Throughout the process and through interaction with others, I believe the email correspondences from the interviewees are looked at as a vital part of the "interview."
Interview Question – "why do you want THIS position" well I couldn't answer convincingly enough it appeared. Answer Question

Like any other large university or large company, all hiring processes go through HR. They were very accommodating to meeting my schedule, especially since I was in the process of relocating to Boston. They arranged for me to interview over the phone with the department, and meet in person with a member from HR during a trip I had already planned (since the department staff had limited availability). Everyone I met seemed warm and friendly, and the place seems like a great place to work. Lots of excellent benefits.
The downside was that I didn't even receive a call regarding my candidacy despite several (respectful) follow-up calls on my part. They simply sent out an automatic email stating the job had been filled.

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Boston, MA (US) Aug 2012 – Reviewed Aug 27, 2012
Interview Details
Initial 1-hr interview with 4 people. Prior to interview I was given link to web site, but most access required a BU account. Softball questions; the interview started by their asking me if I had questions. Odd vibe in room as interviewers exchanged glances after each question I posed, as though they were afraid of revealing too much.
Second round of interviews were 3 hours with 10 people. No hard questions; purpose was to find "fit".
Interview Question – How would I encourage resistant business offices who wanted to redesign the system yet were unable to translate their needs into technical requirements. View Answer
Reason for Declining – Got an offer for another job that aligned more closely with my career goals.
