How did you prepare your resume? Any help/material you took/read?
Resume inputs from batch mates & more importantly from seniors. Fine tuning the resume with inputs especially from
seniors or batch mates who are already working helped a lot.
How did you prepare for your interview/GD? Did you work in groups? Any website/material you read/used for
preparation of Case-Studies/HR Questions/Puzzles/Technical/GDs? (Your sending across links/documents would help
us compile a single point resource)
Importance of mock Interviews & Case studies along with your peers cannot be more emphasized.
Lots of material is available in campus both for case studies and HR questions. “BE Prepared ” gives u
an insight into what to expect in your interviews ?
During Placement Season
What was the procedure of selection in the companies you sat for?
Company 1: Merryl Lynch, Shortlisting based on online form & test, resume. 2 rounds of Interviews.
Company 2: Grail Research, Shortlisting based on test & resume. 2-4 rounds of interviews. Walk us through the
GDs/Interviews of these companies. The questions that you were asked and other details that you may remember would
be of great help. (You may not write the answers you gave) Merryl Lynch : 1st round had one 10 min interview . Some
HR questions & checking basic knowledge in finance.
2nd round had 2 interviews each of 20-30 minutes. Questions on finance, projects, HR, & puzzles in both
the interviews.
Grail Research : 1st round had 2 Estimation Case studies along with some HR questions. For example “
Calculate no.
of cold drinks sold in India in a given year”.
2nd round again was a mix of business case studies and HR questions.
If someone wants to appear for these companies, what all should he/she ideally prepare? (If you could draw from your
mistakes, it would help a lot.)
For students going for Non-Tech companies, neglecting HR questions can be a big mistake (Not particularly sure how
imp. it
is for Tech companies)
“Tell me about yourself” seems to be the most innocent questions of all, but can prove to be a big pain if
left for Impromptu.
As far as case studies go, solve at least 5 different types of case in your group to get a feel for it.

Interview Details The first round interview was on campus following a school career fair and resume drop. Next was a super day at the company's New York Ciy headquarters. All of the questions were very easy. They were mostly about your background and experience. Nothing to worry about at all. Emphasize a passion for finance and helping others, and you'll be fine.
Interview Question – Walk me through your resume. Tell me about a time you exhibited _____? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – No negotiation.
No Offer – Interviewed in Toronto, ON (Canada) Apr 2013 – Reviewed May 13, 2013
Interview Details I applied through university recruiting as the posting was done on my school's recruitment portal. The application was standard with a cover letter and resume included. After 3 weeks, I received a response that I was invited to interview in Toronto. I went for 2 interviews which lasted 35 minutes each. These interviews were very informal and allowed me to get to know the team I would be working with. After this, there was a week delay until my interview with the people from head office in New York. Again, I went to Toronto for a 30 minute interview this time. After about 3 weeks of no news, I e-mailed the first employee who contacted me for information and they got back to me after that.

I submitted my résumé through campus career fair, then received an email about a week later for an on-campus technical interview. The technical interview has a 30 minutes test on "Redesign the current [company financial filings] website" with some guidelines and requirements. And then it's another 30 minutes with the interviewer about the test, how you arrived to your answers, and about your résumé and experiences.
A week later, during the spring break, I received an email from HR inviting me to attend their Super Day - four 30 minutes 1:1 interviews with BAs, they will ask questions they have encountered during their real projects. You don't need to have the perfect, correct answer, but you are expected to ask a lot of questions.
Overall a pleasant experience with Capital IQ, and I'm still waiting for my final results, hope I can get the internship :)

Interview Details I came in as an experienced hire, so my interview process was a bit different. Basically, it was sitting with three different people (a VP, an associate and my boss) and just talking about why I wanted the position and my strengths with customer service. Very easy interview- they need people so as long as you have a pulse you should be okay.
Interview Question – Basically having to sit there while the VP bashed my previous place of employment. I, being a professional (unlike half the people at the company), did not join in on the bashing. Still not sure if that was a test or if the VP is that immature. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Flat offer. No negotiation. At the end of the day, you are a pawn in a conglomerate- they don't care about you. It used to be that Capital IQ was an agile, small time software company. The company has gone to the dogs.

Interview Details This was through campus recruitment. We first had a written test where there were 4 profiles i.e, SE, DBA, QA, BA to consider. It onsisted of basic aptitude and also questions regarding the respective profiles. I was actually selected for BA from the written test and went through an interview the same day but was asked if I was open to QA as they didn't have openings for BA presently. So i went through another round of interview for QA. I was shortlisted and was called to their office after 25 days and had a second round of interview, mostly about different types of testings, giving practical examples and asked me how i would test them and how i tested my project ...very friendly and cheerful. I was also offered internship for 6 months.
