Interview Details
I arrived to the interview about twenty minutes earlier than scheduled and had difficulty locating a worker anywhere in the store to help me. After a few moments of confused wandering, I waited in line to let the cashier know that I'd arrived and my purpose for being there. The interview was okay at first. The woman seemed a bit preoccupied but she was pretty friendly and easy to converse with, so I went into the interview with ease.
I passed the drug test and she seemed pleased with this. Sometime during my interview, however; there was a power outage. This was where the problems began. We went back into the office so that she could fill out the information for the background check, and she couldn't log into the computer. After five minutes of trying, she finally gave up. Eventually, she made a copy of my id - after mocking me and giving me the third degree for still having one from my hometown (though I haven't lived here for all that long, really, and the process to get it changed over here is ridiculous). She told me she would find someone to help her log in and would give me a call to come back and sign the papers, since I didn't live too far away.
Tuesday passed and I heard nothing from her, so I called back today to ask her what was going on, and if I still needed to come in and sign the papers. She didn't seem all that interested but told me to come in. When I got there, it was one of the most rude, most bizarre interactions of my entire life. Again, there was no one to help me and I ended up asking someone at the accessory counter for help. She told me to knock on the office door, and after doing so, a woman - later, I realized the cashier I'd talked to on Monday - slammed the door in my face after saying nothing more than 'oh' with a derisive snort.
Surprisingly, I kept my cool, and waited patiently until the door opened and I was greeted by the woman I'd had an interview with, but eventually had the door slammed in my face again. After waiting yet another almost ten minutes, she ushers me into the office and continues to be rude and dismissive, a complete turnaround from Monday. She again grilled me about my id, even though it had only been two days and there was no way I could've had it changed in that time, and got almost all my information wrong on the sheet, even though it was sitting right in front of her. Still, I remained hopeful, and at the end asked her when I could expect a call back. She said the background check would take a few days. A few hours after I returned home, there was a lovely email waiting for me in my inbox, telling me I didn't get the position. They didn't even send the check out! It's just as well. I'm not sure I'd even want to work here, now.
Interview Question – None. The questions were pretty easy. Definitely read up on Goodwill, though, one of the first things they ask you is what you know about the organization. Answer Question

Interview Details Applied online. Heard back within a week, conducted a initial phone interview. At the conclusion of the call, set up an in-person interview at the retail store in Fountain Square. Person conducting interview was from the corporate Human Resources department. Apparently all hiring in the central Virginia area is done by this single person (I learned later that this is because they lack the confidence in their own employees to allow the average employee/manager to conduct hiring/firing). Standard interview with standard questions. At conclusion of interview, was taken on a brief tour of the store, introduced to the other employees, and was told I would hear back within 3 days if I got the position. The next day I received a call saying I had acquired the position, was sent an email with the details to a local drug-testing facility, which I went and completed the same day. Waited another 3 days for the results. Received a call from the Human Resources interviewer saying I had passed, and given a date to come in and sign initial hiring paperwork. The day of signing paperwork, I was given my goodwill uniform, and told my starting date and location.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Willowbrook, IL (US) Dec 2012 – Reviewed Dec 15, 2012
Interview Details I was contacted by a recruiter. I did one 30-45 minute phone interview, and then one face-to-face interview that lasted around 30-45 minutes as well. The two recruiters and manager that I spoke with were extremely nice. They seem to believe in mission and are very welcoming. I asked each person about how they like working for the company, and they seemed genuine when they said they loved working their. Both said it's the best place for good work-life balance, and that they couldn't see themselves working anywhere else.
Negotiation Details – I didn't try to negotiate. They gave me all of the information and I was happy with the offer. They pay more, and have more benefits than I expected.
Declined Offer – Interviewed in Palm Desert, CA (US) – Reviewed Dec 09, 2012
Interview Details I filled out an application in store, turned it in,and 1 week later received a call from the customer service supervisor asking me to come in for an interview. Mind you my application says for management or supervisor. This guy tried to have me come in as a sales associate. He told me all their employees start off at the bottom and work their way up. Not sure if I believe him. Interview was about 15 minutes long.
Interview Question – Very simple questions. Tell me about your experience? Why did you leave ? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – Tried to get me to go in as a sales associate starting at minimum wage even though I have an extensive retail management background experience as well as a bachelors degree. I think the guy was looking for good reliable employees. Weird. I am better than a sales associate. What a waist of my time.
