Sales Associate at Home Depot

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Great Falls, MT (US) – Reviewed May 07, 2013 New

Interview Details I applied on-line but did not get called. I sent a letter to the Store Mgr. saying that I knew he must be receiving many apps and that I would really like a chance to interview. I was first called with a simple phone interview, then an in-person interview, and was hired on the spot. I was hired for part time, temp. I am already working 35 hrs and have been moved to permanent status. Phone interview: When did you work as a team to resolve a problem? In-person interview:" Why do you want to work for Home Depot?" Mention their reputation, Core Values, and dedication to customer service. "Explain when you have learned something new and incorporated that into your job?" These were basic questions, but there were questions directed towards Sales and since this was my first retail job, they were more difficult to answer. Below is an example. Culture seems geared toward old-school hard work and ethics, not just schmoozing and looking good. Don't expect a fancy HR office to interview in. The interview was in a freezing cold work-area (cool because it housed equipment). I love it so far. Good Luck.

Interview Question – "You are going up to a customer to assist him/her, what would you do to assist the customer, how/when do you know that the sale complete?"   View Answer

Lot Associate at Home Depot

Interview Details Interview is pretty straight foward. Run of the mill situational "tell me about a time" type questions. They just want to know how you would or how have you handled stress, mad customers, and boss breathing down your neck. It can take a while for them to call you back but once they do, it moves fairly quickly. Within a couple of weeks you should be in a store

Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you had a limited amount of time and a list of things to get done. (para phrased)   Answer Question

Lead IT Developer at Home Depot

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Atlanta, GA (US) Sep 2012 – Reviewed May 15, 2013 New

Interview Details Interview process was fast and relatively easy, but almost too much so. They didn't understand what they really needed, and weren't clear on what the role would involve. They were overly anxious to get someone with a particular skill set, but that skill set was really only a small part of what the job required.

Interview Question – None ... they didn't know the right questions to ask.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They met my salary request on their initial offer; no other negotiations were needed.

Interview Question – What can you contribute to the company?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation.

Part Time Cashier at Home Depot

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Deerfield, IL (US) Jan 2011 – Reviewed May 11, 2013 New

Interview Details First you search thru the THD job site to find openings in your area and the you apply on line. You have 10 choices and should start with the largest stores in the area as they usually need new employees.

As expected I was contacted within 1 week, interviewed and hired within 2 more.

The interview was short and they hired me immediately.

When they ask you to tell them about yourself, you layout a short outline about how your talents would add to the THD Team and company success. I used all the 'bullet point' and keywords that I had written down from all of their web content. Always speak in the terms that they use like: 'The Home Depot Way' or Team Orange', memorize their Wheel of company ethics and touch on those keys points. But keep it to ~ 5-8 minutes length.

Connect your past work experience with specific advantages to their customer requirements, which like all retail is based 99% on customer communication skills.

Interview Question – Usually pissed off customers or how you would handle situations that require a judgment decision. You will always get pissed off customers - happens for reasons outside of THD, just how you deal with it - listen and pass it along to management, same thing with judgment calls always refer to your next up.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Basically no, their payscales are set by corporate.

Cashier at Home Depot

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in May 2013 – Reviewed May 10, 2013 New

Interview Details I applied online and a few days later got an automated call. I called back and answered yes/no questions to the automated voice and then was transferred to a representative who asked my basic questions asking about cashiering experience and simple questions. I then had an interview with the store manager who asked maybe 10 typical questions and then hired me on the spot. I just had to go get a drug test within 48 hours and then came in to do new hire paperwork and will start orientation next week.

Interview Question – What will you do knowing that you may be the only employee that a customer comes in contact with?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – He really liked my interview and I was told when talking to the representative that this position pays $8 but I was offered $8.50

Specialty Sales Associate at Home Depot

Accepted Offer – Reviewed May 08, 2013 New

Interview Details The Home Depot emails you to set up a phone interview. After you do that, you'll get a store interview, and if your interviewer thinks you'd be good for an open position, they'll schedule a second interview. The second interview is just to get another managers opinion, in my case, the first interview was all Q&A, and the second interview was just a conversation, with the assistant store manager taking notes as we talked. Very casual.

Interview Question – In my first interview I was asked what past job experience I had the most trouble with. The question kind of blind sided me.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They tell you what you are going to make an hour and you either accept or decline.
