Declined Offer – Interviewed in Pune Jun 2012 – Reviewed Sep 04, 2012
Interview Details
Had an initial telephonic interview that lasted for close to 45 minutes. Was called in for a face to face and had two interview rounds - HR first and technical later. All the interviewers were very positive and keen to understand my abilities and driving factors.
Questions were generally on why and how of technology. There was a specific question on how you'd handle multi-gigs of data generated every day. Agile practices, TDD and other stuff on my resume was asked about.
On completion, the lead recruiter even took me around the floor and we met some folks and got to see some of their tools in use at sites.
The whole process was very positive, people were very helping, trying to see the best in you. Overall, it leaves you definitely wanting to join.

During the last semester of my Bachelor's education, several companies across India came on campus to recruit students who would graduate in 6 months. John Deere, Pune (India) was one of them. I appeared for their 'entrance test'. It consisted of verbal ability and quantitative ability (GRE-like) questions in one section and Mechanics of Material / Engine engineering / Design related objective type questions in the other section. The answers were probably checked by some computerized system as the results were out in less than a couple of hours. Based on the performance in this test, about 30 candidates from my college were short-listed for the interview. I was one of them.
Before the interview we were asked to fill up forms with typical HR-type questions like 'describe your strengths / weaknesses; describe your career goals' etc. The interview was primarily based on the same questions. There were 2 people interviewing me. One from HR and other from as I later understood Manufacturing Services. After all the 30 odd interviews were over and there was some sort of closed session of the interviewing team, the names of the candidates who would be offered jobs were called out.
Interview Question – Close to the end I was asked about my extra curricular activities! And any example where I thought I used innovative /engineering mindset while I was involved in those activities. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – There was no opportunity for negotiations for the compensation. Since it was an on-campus recruitment process a fixed package was offered to all recruited candidates.
No Offer – Interviewed in Charlotte, NC (US) Apr 2013 – Reviewed May 06, 2013
Interview Details Phone interview with hiring manager, followed by an on-site interview with two additional team members. The initial phone interview was a lot of information about the position and questions about my background/work experience to determine whether or not I was a good fit for the position. The on-site interview questions were fairly straightforward 'tell me about a situation when' style questions and everyone was very nice.
Interview Question – What project did you complete that was much more difficult than it initially seemed? How did you get through it? Answer Question
Declined Offer – Interviewed in Waterloo, IA (US) Oct 2012 – Reviewed Apr 11, 2013
Interview Details It was a great experience to interview with John Deere. All questions were STAR based. The community tour was very helpful. It changed my perspective about the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area. Everyone, during the interview process, was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the position that I interviewed for, did not fit my experience level-so I had to decline the offer. The hiring process was a little slow. The offer was very impressive. Great benefits, generous relocation package as well as signing bonus. Vacation of 3 weeks, which was impressive (most comapnies offer 2 weeks' vacation time for new hires). I think the benefits offered by Deere are probably the best you can get.
Interview Question – Describe a situation where you had to convince a co-worker to follow the system. View Answer
Reason for Declining – The position I was offered was an entry to mid level position, whereas I was looking for a senior level position.
Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Des Moines, IA (US) Mar 2013 – Reviewed Apr 07, 2013
Interview Details I was contacted by email to schedule a ten minute phone interview mostly to confirm details in my submitted resume. This led to a second phone interview with an HR rep, which lasted about an hour and consisted of mostly behavioral questions. In the next two or three days, I was emailed that I had been recommended to a hiring manager. Now I was a late hire in March, so the normal process of flying me out to Des Moines was too time consuming. Instead, I scheduled another phone interview with a potential hiring manager. This last interview was most informative and gave me the sense that they were matching me to a position instead of screening me. After a drug test and some more information (school transcripts and ID for background check) I was hired.

Declined Offer – Reviewed Mar 26, 2013
Interview Details After 2 interviews with different human resources people, the third wanted to know about what kind of experience i had. Since my experience was limited, he wanted to know what i could tell him about diesel engines, which is my area of expertise. He didnt seem to know what i was talking about at all. Another stupid place who uses the HR department to hire for jobs they know nothing about.
Interview Question – Explain to be the diesel engine. Dont ask a question if you dont know much about the answer. Answer Question
