Partner Manager Coordinator Interview

Anonymous Employee
Austin, TX (US)

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot.

Interview Details 1) Initial phone screening with a recruiter
2) Additional phone screening with a director
3) On-site interview consisted of 4 interviews and a data test
4) 2 follow-up phone interviews

Very nice and respectful interviewers with a lot of knowledge. A large component of the process was to determine cultural fit. The on-site interview included a tour and overview of benefits.

Interview Question – Asked a lot of questions to gauge my comfort level with raw data.   Answer Question

Senior Merchandiser Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot in January 2014.

Interview Details Initial phone screen with HR (30 min) who was rather curt and rude. It didn't seem like she read my resume at all before calling me and acted uninterested the whole time we talked.

Surprisingly, I was passed on to the hiring manager for a 45 minute phone interview. Lots of questions about my online experience, some basic case questions on how to differentiate a good vs. bad coupon, some ad hoc math questions (% off vs. $ off). At the end of the conversation, he said HR would reach out to me to complete some case questions but never actually heard from them again. Very unprofessional.

Interview Question – How would you determine whether a coupon is a good deal?   Answer Question

Intern Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Austin, TX (US)

I applied through college or university and interviewed at RetailMeNot.

Interview Details After giving them my resume I had an initial on-campus interview. Once I passed that they invited me to their main headquarters in Austin, TX. There I had 4 separate interviews each lasting around an hour. All 4 of these interviews were technical, covering topics in basic data structures. I believe I was asked a question on networking as well.

Interview Question – Given a binary tree, design an algorithm that does a level order traversal of the tree, where each level is printed out in the reverse order as the previous level.   Answer Question

Software Engineering Intern Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 days - interviewed at RetailMeNot in February 2014.

Interview Details Started off with a few simple questions, abstract data types etc. Nothing extremely tricky, or things you would necessarily be able to prepare in advance. Standard "do you know your stuff" questions. We moved to a whiteboard afterwards, where there was a function prototype written and the rest of the function to be written. It wasn't a very hard question, totally do-able if you've taken your core CS classes.

Interview Question – I came into the whiteboard coding question totally unprepared. It wasn't a very difficult problem but I wasn't ready for it.   Answer Question

Data Quality Analyst Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot in April 2012.

Interview Details Phone Interview with Data Architect. Asked about experience in creating work flow documents, DB ER diagrams, data flow diagrams, decision trees. Requested examples of previous work product. I emailed that, due to confidentiality agreements that every tech company requires employees to sign, I could not provide this information. I welcomed any additional questions, information I could provide, etc. but never heard from anyone at this company again. I consider this extremely unprofessional for two reasons. The first reason is I should never have been asked to break a confidentiality agreement by providing work product from another company. And second they should have followed up with, at the very least, with an email.

Senior Software Developer Interview

Interviewed at RetailMeNot

Interview Details Technical Phone Screen with a Manager via browser based scratch pad. Went through 2 or 3 questions and coded them out to sufficient detail (didn't have to explicitly compile and run). Post phone screen went in for a 1/2 day tech screen with 5 people. Back to Back tech screens until the last person all on the whiteboard, very CS heavy (big-O analysis of all solutions and a lot of recursion).

Interview Question – They had a fair number of recursive problems as well as a Tree problem   Answer Question

Senior Online Merchandiser Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Austin, TX (US)

I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot in December 2013.

Interview Details Several phone calls starting with the recruiter followed by members of the team to talk about work history, expectations, and the role. Next, they provided a case study to complete regarding one of their store pages/clients. Final stage was a 1/2 day of in person interviews with recruiter, analyst, department manager, team managers, and sales manager.

Interview Questions

  • Complete a case study with limited info they provide you to see how you go about providing solutions. This wasn't difficult for me since I do this daily but I can see how others can have trouble.   Answer Question
  • Why do you think you'd be a good fit? Tell me about your work experience? Tell me about awards you have won? Tell me how you work with others? Pretty basic questions that were asked repetitively.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – Very difficult decision, but declined due to salary which wasn't competitive with my current salary.

Product Manager Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Austin, TX (US)

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot.

Interview Details RetailMeNot flew me to Austin on very short notice to interview for this internal PM opportunity. Interviewed with two directors (including the hiring manager) and four senior-level team members. Office culture was extremely relaxed, which is cool to a point, but it came off as a slightly unprofessional work environment. Travel agent refused to book me on a direct flight home because doing so would have cost $15 over the company's self-imposed limit on airfare expenses; they saved $35 by inconveniencing me with a connecting flight and a three-hour layover. Lead HR contact said they'd update me on their status by the end of the following day. That was three weeks ago, and I still haven't heard from anyone at the company.

Interview Question – They wanted me to share engineering solutions with them on the fly, which was unexpected since this was not an engineering position. Also asked me for high-level ideas about how they should monetize their registered-user base.   Answer Question

Ann Arbor, MI (US)

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 days - interviewed at RetailMeNot in September 2013.

Interview Details On-campus Interview

Interview Question – Typical technical question: you're a guard of a prison, you want to keep an eye on the most dangerous prisoner. Each prisoner has a danger rank of his own and a group of friends (who also have danger ranks). You'll need to go through the prison and find out the prisoner who has the highest danger rank (his own + all his friends).   Answer Question
