I have been working at Carbonite full-time (more than a year)Pros
Work with some really smart and accomplished people. Sadly many have left. Good benefits. Great new office with easy access to the T and commuter rail.Cons
The company has no strategy other than price discounts and early renewals. After a year it's become obvious the channel will not be the saving grace it was once thought to be.
Carbonite's new product called "The Appliance" which is channel exclusive can only be compared the Ford Edsel. A monumental failure of product management, marketing, and engineering.
The company also decided to make ANOTHER play for the international market. After the first attempted went so well. Good luck getting European's to use a product with US data centers. Also trying to penetrate the Asian market with out a mobile app will be next to impossible. This decision will be a case study for MBA students on epic disasters. "Never get involved in a land war in Asia"
Sadly for Carbonite the cloud has become a commodity and it's a race to the bottom for storage cost. A pricing model that charges customer's by the GB rather than for features/services will never compete with the likes of Google, AWS, and MS Azure. This isn't to say senior management was unaware of the changing cloud market place but rather than enhance the consumer product with new features they decided on an appliance and the channel.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Clean house. You have a lot of round pegs in square holes. VP's who just throw money at problems and hire consultants that tell you what you want to hear. Also lower the company's expectations or start holding people accountable for their numbers. I've never got a full bonus.Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookNo opinion of CEO
