Current Employee - Inventory Accounts Payable Clerk in Beaumont, TX (US)

I have been working at Conn's full-time (more than an year)

I don't have any pros, except you meet a lot of people but mainly meet is all you do

When your hired your not told you will never get a raise. I worked for Conns for a year but had been looking for another job before they "let me go". I was the only inventory payables clerk, with all the warehouses and new stores continually being opened I was still suppose to be able to keep up everything the same way as when I was hired. The people in the payables department each had a section with no help and only being paid $11.00 an hour. I eventually had another job with not quiet the same about of work paying $21.00 an hour. At first I was allowed some overtime and could make up time from doctor appts. or sick day. Once their backlog work was caught up and student that was making up school time was gone, the overtime and makeup time was taken away. If you didn't fit into theur click you weren't going to make it. I had no training basically (good thing I could learn on my own and picked up quickly.)Manager didn't want to answer questions and I knew about other accounting practices than she did. Once your disliked your in trouble, especially because of all the relatives and such. I was not even allowed to change departments to collections when I was well over qualified for that position, they hire just about any kind of person for that job, because of this I was let go about two weeks after trying to switch and before I found another job. I did my job very well with no training. Now I have to tell prospective employers I was let go and they don't want to hear the circumstances, so Conns screws you that way also. One last note, their computer systems suck, behind the times and HR tells you there is a no retaliation policy which is a crock. They don't accept your complaints about management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to rethink their pay format for those that aren't in management and are not in a commissioned position. They also need to have a real no retailation policy and make sure there are no management clicks, managers should have surprise investigations about them and their employees should be questioned about their manager. I had several occassions my manager ended up paying for merchandise that was never received and also she took no responsibility for things, if there was a process she didn't agree with she wouldn't do it for het work she had me or one other employee do it, her and the other employee didn't undersrand the process and didn't want me to explain, if they had listened there would have been no reason not to take that responsibility, probably the real reason I was let go because I refused to do her over ride processes.
