I have been working at Duke University Health System full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    The medical benefits are outstanding.

    Cons

Senior and middle supply management make decisions based on theory, instead of evidence-based practice or instead of including the front line employees' opinions & concerns; process improvement and efficiency is at an all time low especially with the implementation of the new cancer center and new medical pavilion; their motto now is "work more with less." The nursing staff is unhappy and short-staffed; HR is a joke when it comes to getting a job, the Procurement department is grossly overworked, unappreciated, and micromanaged.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

LIsten to your front line staff; we know better than you do when it comes to the needs and concerns of the facilities. Please consider your hard workers for management/supervisory positions; the ones you have in there now are clueless. Try rewarding people with compliments or occasional kudos, some of us work hard and out work the slackers you have a hard time getting rid of; recognition goes a long way.
