I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (more than 3 years)Pros
I work in Technology and 95% of the people are incredibly smart and driven. You learn a lot from an incredibly talented group of people (wish they did a better job of making them want to stay). There are only a very small handful of duds. You can work from home in this department which is fantastic as you can travel and not take PTO (this is a double edged sword because you're available to work pretty much anywhere). They have offices in almost every major city and there are opportunities to travel if you ask. If you prefer not to travel, there's no pressure to do so.
Culture is pretty good, people are very nice and will go out of their way to help you learn. But there is not much camaraderie once you leave the office.
There is an emphasis to take PTO and enjoy it while you're out. However, it can be hard to manage a "good" time to take it.
Promotion structure is a pro and con. The pro is that there aren't limited amount of upper management positions. If you deserve to be promoted, you don't need to wait for a position to be vacated.Cons
Promotion Cons: they emphasize 2 year minimum between promotions, but that leaves you with no incentive to work hard in a non-promotion year. Very few get promoted early, and usually FTI promotes 1 year later than it should. You have to do the work of a level higher for a year before they promote you to that level. Promotion cycles leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
Pay is below average, especially for NYC. Raises are very small, pay bumps for promotions is very underwhelming, and annual bonus is very little compared to other companies - and I've received great reviews for my level. Depending on the project, work life balance can be very difficult. You never know what time work will end and working on weekends (for a handful of hours) is pretty standard. You will constantly be on your blackberry at all hours.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Recruitment is top notch, do a better job retaining that talent. Seen way too many incredibly smart and driven people leave because they are mismanaged and underpaid.
