    I have been working at FairPoint Communications full-time (more than 3 years)


    Growing list of products to offer customers to remain competitive. Absolutely the best and most ubiquitous data network architecture in Northern New England of any provider. Lofty growth plans with excellent promotions and incentive plans. Excellent benefits. Flexible work environment with many tele-work opportunities. Terrific CEO & CFO who are down to earth with an eye on the ground level issues, but keep their focus where it needs to be providing vision and focus for everyone in the organization.


    NOTE: Typically, satisfied employees do not spend time researching salary or employment sites, so take this review with a grain of salt. Six months to a year ago, I would have sung praises of FairPoint. As a newcomer today, I probably would as well. ;)

    Some of the Executive leadership team doesn't venture out of the ivory tower often enough. They are creating policies, plans, and revenue objectives that are not achievable. The only folks paying the price appear to be the soldiers at ground level. The small business Sales segment is overcrowded (2013 & 2014). In general, channel stratification and market segmentation are fluid and loosely defined which causes wasted energy on conflict between the business segments. Union negotiations and a likely strike are coming in August 2014.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Heed wide-spread employee complaints before the issues fester and create a toxic environment. Create policies and sales channel management strategies which foster a culture of support and develop strong teams. During the latter part of 2012 and all of 2013 the culture of support and teaming was deteriorated by newer channel and segmentation models designed to maximize competition and drive high-performance. Those models are typically sustainable for short periods of time before they create a toxic work environment that does far more harm to the organization than good. Looking ahead to 2014, the organization must make changes or it will suffer negative change via a high rate of attrition of its most valued employees. All teams within the company are being driven to do much more with much less and are feeling the same pressures and negative impacts of this culture change which occurred during 2012 & 2013.
