I have been working at Johns Hopkins University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Meaningful work, great benefits (especially Tuition Grant program that pays 50% of tuition for dependent children at any 4-year college), lots of opportunity to move around or up. Live Near Your Work grant is helpful for those who want to live in Baltimore City, have a shorter commute, and help to build thriving neighborhoods around JHU. Robust catalog of training opportunities available at no cost to employees. High level of job security.

    Cons

Salary is not competitive. Benefits help balance this out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Act more quickly to try to engage employees who are disengaged. If that doesn't work, work with HR on progressive counseling/discipline to force the issue. Disengaged employees either need to turn it around or leave. The high level of job security at JHU is great, but that should only be extended to those who are committed to JHU mission and values.
