I have been working at University of Victoria full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Being a teaching assistant has been quite a pleasant experience for me. I have worked with multiple professors and all of them have been very courteous and welcoming. I personally value the excellent work-life balance as I, in general, do not feel overworked. On the other hand, this is something that could vary depending on which professors and/or department you are working with, so do keep that in mind. However, based on what I have heard from multiple people across various departments, my general outlook is shared by a lot of other people.

    Cons

The pay for teaching assistants is not nearly competitive enough when compared with universities elsewhere in the country. I am personally familiar with universities in Southern Ontario where pay for comparable jobs is significantly higher and cost of living is similar to Victoria.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, I suppose. I do wish that more inter-departmental opportunities were present (both social and career wise) but I believe departments tend to operate in a vacuum pretty much everywhere else as well.
