Chubb Corp – Why Work For Us?

For more than 130 years, the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has been delivering exceptional property and casualty insurance products and services to businesses and individuals around the world.

Today, we are the 12th largest property and casualty insurer in the United States and have a worldwide network of some 120 offices in 26 countries staffed by 10,200 employees. The Chubb Corporation reported $50.4 billion in assets and $13.9 billion in revenues in 2013. According to Fortune magazine, Chubb is the 202nd largest U.S.-based corporation.

We have emerged as a leader in the insurance industry not only on the basis of our size or our longevity. We consistently strive to build lasting relationships with our customers and 8,500 independent agents and brokers, and we aim to be the best at what we do by delivering unparalleled service and innovative, scalable and specialized products backed by financial strength and third-party endorsements.

Life at Chubb

Integrity. Diversity. A commitment to excellence. These are the core values that define Chubb. It's who we are, and life at Chubb reflects these values.

Ours is a relationship-oriented, quality-driven culture where employees are challenged to exceed expectations. A strong customer-first approach influences how we treat one another – with respect, courtesy and an appreciation for the unique differences we each bring to the workplace. We've always believed in creating an inclusive workplace where each individual's diverse skills, cultural perspectives and backgrounds are valued.

One reason that employees stay is because we understand that everyone has unique challenges, both on and off the job. That’s why we offer workplace flexibility programs and other perks that make us an award-winning employer of choice.

Think CAREERS. Think Chubb.

A retired doctor wants to drive his classic Lamborghini on the legendary Mille Miglia in Italy. An executive is worried about kidnapping while traveling internationally. A winery is hosting a wedding for more than 200 guests.

These are the kind of sophisticated risks that we handle at Chubb. Businesses and affluent individuals depend on us to have just the right coverage, for everything from art collections and Broadway play productions to cyber security and clean tech risks. As a student or recent graduate, you will find an outstanding opportunity to launch your career here.

Over the past few years, Chubb has taken great strides in making the company a hospitable and welcoming workplace for all employees, specifically including women, people of color, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees.  Over the same period, Chubb’s financial performance has improved greatly.  That's no coincidence.  A company all of whose people share the same background, culture and ways of looking at the world is likely to stagnate.  On the other hand, a company whose employees bring different perspectives to their jobs is one that will always find more efficient ways to operate and new ways to grow.  My vision is for Chubb to became a workplace where every employee can feel that Chubb is the place they can make their careers, a place where talent and hard work are the only tickets to success.

Message From Chief Diversity Officer Trevor Gandy

Chubb's Diversity Vision is predicated on core values that have defined the company for more than a century - including trust, integrity and a belief that the distinctive quality of our relationships remains essential to the company's ability to outperform competitors.  These values extend to the people who comprise the company and whose contributions enable it to thrive.  In particular, we have always believed that by creating an inclusive workplace where each individual's diverse skills, cultural perspectives and backgrounds are valued, we are promoting personal and corporate success.  As Chubb's Chief Diversity Officer, I serve as the steward of our corporate diversity strategy; however we are all accountable for fostering an inclusive workplace that clearly distinguishes Chubb as an employer, partner and insurer of choice.

Trevor Gandy

Sheila P. Burke, Chubb Director since 1997

Ms. Burke is a Faculty Research Fellow, Malcolm Weiner Center for Social Policy, Member of Faculty, J.F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; Senior Public Policy Advisor, Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz.

"Companies who expect to attract and retain high performing employees must show them that it is not only possible to advance to more senior jobs, but that the company will invest in preparing them to compete for those jobs. In particular, diverse employees must see that there are people with similar backgrounds advancing to positions of power and influence. Chubb’s long standing commitment to developing diverse leaders not only ensures that the company is maximizing the potential of its top talent to contribute to results, but also affords it a distinct competitive advantage in an increasingly multicultural marketplace. Diverse customers respond best to messages and marketing that demonstrate an understanding of their values, interests and communities. Chubb’s diversity efforts have brought an authenticity to its relationships with diverse markets that cannot be manufactured overnight, but is instead the result of a growing awareness and inclusiveness that are intrinsic to the company’s leadership."

Dr. James I. Cash, Chubb Director since 1996

Dr. Cash is the James E. Robison Emeritus Professor of Business Administration, Harvard University.

"There is little dispute among today’s business leaders that diversity fosters innovation and innovation enhances competitiveness. Acknowledging this relationship is one thing; being able to effectively leverage it is quite another. Smart, high performing companies have worked long and hard to create workplaces where diverse viewpoints not only coexist, but can thrive and take new form as innovative products and services that resonate with diverse customers worldwide. Chubb is among the best of those companies. Its leaders have maintained a relentless focus on removing barriers that prevent diverse employees from performing at the highest possible level, and on building networks that support a lively and productive exchange of ideas, perspectives and insights among its people. There is no better formula for maintaining the company’s reputation as an inclusive and progressive employer, and ensuring its continued success in the global marketplace."

Lawrence M. Small, Chubb Director since 1989

Mr. Small is the former Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum and research complex.

"A diverse and inclusive workforce leads to the generation of new ideas and products, enhanced productivity and improved engagement.  People's varied experiences contribute to the way in which they approach challenges and propose solutions.  Diversity requires an organization's leadership to recognize that its workforce brings different perspectives and approaches to doing business.  It must actively seek ideas from its workforce and value and nurture those ideas in order to remain a competitive employer, partner and investment of choice."
