I have been working at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Beautiful place, great equipment, great patients, easy access to special services. Many of their doctors have a great wealth of knowledge, and the older doctors still have the mind set of truly caring for their patients.

    Cons

Management is horrible. Moral there is at an all time low, rather than cutting costs they add more management whom do next to nothing. Long ago their was a place to give suggestions on how to cut costs but you always got a nasty reply. Dartmouth clearly does not appreciate their employees and your nothing if you don't have MD or RN next to your name. I started their when the president was Varnum and it was a wonderful place to work. When he retired the place went down hill quickly. Positions that were not RN positions were made RN positions just driving up the cost and the service suffered. Then comes the wonderful idea to add more management and drive up the cost... To alleviate such new expenses the normal everyday employee gets to not get a raise, get benefits and perks cut, get treated poorly, and told how they work at such a wonderful family oriented place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This will be something I'm sure they have heard many times but continue to ignore. LISTEN TO YOUR EMPLOYEES!!!! Just because they are not management doesn't mean they are not capable of thinking and have valid ideas. If you want moral to get better treat your employees better. If you want better work out of them pay them... I have witnessed a person follow a family member of a pediatric patient going to surgery trying to collect a copay......seriously? You have become a money hungry corporation and not a hospital.. its pathetic.

    Interview Details

It took several months to get a call for an interview. The interview process was in two stages. Once, with HR, just a simple overview and tentative offer. The second was with the head of the department. I had to pass a background check.
