Press Ganey – Why Work For Us?

Press Ganey Associates was co-founded by two Notre Dame Professors, Dr. Irwin Press and Dr. Rod Ganey in 1985. Dr. Press, a professor of medical anthropology, took a unique interest in understanding the patient experience and became an expert within the field. Recognizing the need to systematically and scientifically measure patient satisfaction, Dr. Press joined forces with Dr. Rod Ganey, an expert in statistics. The two developed a survey and together, they founded Press Ganey.
 
While remaining faithful to our founders’ mission, we are again transforming health care as we redefine the patient experience and forge the path to allow the voice of every patient to be heard. Our team is constantly innovating and collaborating to ensure we push the boundaries of our industry to the next level. The majority of these innovative team members work at one of our five offices, located in Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, and South Bend; however, we do employ offsite associates for specific positions. To further advance the science of improving patient care, Press Ganey established the  Institute for Innovation, an independent, nonprofit research collaborative. The Institute brings together prominent health care leaders from across the industry to identify aspects of patient care that would benefit from improvement and to develop solutions that will positively affect experiences and outcomes.

Press Ganey has grown and evolved significantly over the past few years. But what hasn’t changed is the fact that this company has always had a strong mission to help clients improve the care they provide to patients. People work here because they are motivated by doing meaningful work.

In 2013, with the help of our associates, we revisited our mission, vision, and values, and adapted it to better reflect who we are now, as well as who we will be in the future. Formalizing our new mission, vision and values builds on our company’s strong foundation, acknowledges our associates’ contributions to our success, and provides strategies for future growth. Additionally, in 2014, we began piloting a corporate mentoring program, with the goal to implement a full-scale program in 2015.

Overall, we reached an all-time high participation of 96%, and even more noteworthy, we saw our engagement/satisfaction rates improve across all functional areas and within each category from 2013 to 2014. For example, we received “off the charts” ratings for meaningful work, quality products and services, collaboration with colleagues and relationships with direct managers. Also, we received more than 2,400 written comments, and our CEO, Pat Ryan, personally read every one.

    Pros

    No longer simply the leading "survey company" Press Ganey is now considered a formidable thought leader in the industry having recruited such well respected experts as Dr. Tom Lee and Dr.Jim Merlino. Through development or M&A Press Ganey is making significant investments in strategic solutions that matter to clients. It's personally gratifying to meet with Senior Leaders at client organizations who see us as providing solutions, not just products

    Cons

    Lots of change-new colleagues,new Org structures,etc...
     It sometimes takes a while to find out who to go to for what as it's constantly evolving. But usually it results in a pleasant surprise as you are introduced to a new Subject Matter Expert or find out that something that a client needs is already under development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Schedule periodic "town halls" with just the RD's/ Frontline staff.
    We're the boots on the ground and many of us have been in healthcare a pretty long time and can provide strategic, direct feedback from client Sr. Leaders.

    I applied online – interviewed at Press Ganey.

    Interview Details

    I was contacted 2-3 weeks after applying to set up a phone interview. The phone interview was with a young HR rep who was nice enough but clearly just reading off a list of basic questions and typing my answers. Not a lot of interaction. The phone interview lasted about 20 minutes, and the HR rep said she would be sending the info to management who would then make decisions about candidates to invite to in-person interviews. She said that she would be in contact within a week to notify me whether or not I would advance to the next round. After two weeks of not hearing anything, I reached out to her to ask whether the position had been filled or if she had any updates, but it has been a week and I have still not heard back.

    The experience has been very unprofessional.
