    I have been working at Smiths Detection full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    As a member of the Edgewood staff and also a regular visitor to the Danbury location, I can echo the comments of others regarding the favorable employee atmosphere in Danbury versus the indescribably negative atmosphere in Edgewood. The company has good things going for it - excellent product, some very good employees, and perfect location. None of which are leveraged by management to ensure the success of the organization.

    Cons

    Senior management seems inclined to recruit their friends and former colleagues at very high levels and have them commute from remote locations on the company dime. It would be really nice if the rest of us were granted a day a week for "travel" to and from "home."
    The organization gives the appearance of trying to become more profitable, but yet seems to look for opportunities to waste money by recruiting very high level individuals as additions to staff. Meanwhile, management expects more from those who do the work but grants no salary increases nor bonus opportunities to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If Smiths were really concerned about employee morale and the future success of the company, the board would fire most of you, starting with the one who hired all his prior coworkers and friends.
    Eat, or get eaten. We are not competitive in any way and we need to step it up from product quality, service value, and cost to produce.

    I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 daysinterviewed at Smiths Detection.

    Interview Details

    I have gotten a phone call from Cadre recruitment company about a position. Skype interview with Cadre agent. Next day a phone interview with Jeff manager of the software. I got invitation for in person interview. Smiths did not pay for the visit. I came the whole way from Montreal. I went to Smiths and Jeff came with another engineer who looked like he never saw my CV before. He looked through the CV for a few minutes then said: "Oh, you have experience with CAN2 bus?!" I said that i had and explain what kind of experience I had. He mentioned: That's great! I have no more questions! Jeff said that he already asked all the questions on the phone. The whole process took about 10 minutes. For this I came the whole way from Montreal. What the heck?
