Workday – Why Work For Us?

The Enterprise Cloud for HR and Finance

In 2005, longtime friends and software visionaries Dave Duffield and Aneel Bhusri set out to change an industry. They started with a clean sheet of paper and combined decades of experience with fresh and innovative thinking, the most modern technologies, and a proven set of core values. The result is Workday—built from the cloud up.

Workday delivers Human Capital Management, Financial Management, Payroll, Time Tracking, Procurement, and Employee Expense Management applications to the world’s largest organizations. Hundreds of companies, ranging from medium-sized to the Fortune 50, are gaining business value from Workday.

Trust, Honesty, Fun—All Part of Our Culture

It’s fun to work in a company where people truly believe in what they’re doing. At Workday, we’re committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business of enterprise applications. We work hard, and we’re serious about what we do. But we like to have a good time, too. In fact, we run our company with that principle in mind every day: One of our core values is fun. If you like wild growth and working with happy, enthusiastic over-achievers, you’ll enjoy Workday.

A Simple Approach to Happy Customers, Employees, and Families

When Dave and Aneel founded Workday, they wanted the company to embody all the good qualities of their past experiences. They also knew that the real measure of success would be the degree to which Workday abided by a set of key core values.

Dave has founded five companies in his career, and the core values he developed over the years were inspired by Jim Collins's book Beyond Entrepreneurship: Turning Your Business Into an Enduring Great Company. Core values give us a framework for leadership and daily decisions, and they help us enjoy our time at work. Sounds so simple, but too often companies get caught up in politics, ivory-tower attitudes, and market mania instead of focusing on the things that probably made them successful in the first place.

The following Workday core values and beliefs define what's important to Workday:

Employees

Most fundamentally, people are the core of our business. Without them, we would have no business.

Customer Service

Every investment and decision we make has our customers in mind, and we pull out all stops to put the needs and issues of our customers first.

Innovation

We aim for innovation not only in our Development organization, but also in the way we approach all aspects of our business.

Integrity

We say what we mean, and mean what we say. We stick to our commitments, treat everyone equitably, and communicate openly and honestly.

Fun

We work hard and play hard, investing in community and company events that help our employees and their families feel a connection to Workday beyond business as usual.

Profitability

Profitability is what enables us to give our employees and customers the best productivity tools, solutions, and services, so it's hugely important to us.

The San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal ranked Workday #1 for large companies on its annual list of Best Places to Work in the Bay Area for 2013. This is the sixth consecutive year Workday has received recognition on the list.

Employees from nearly 500 Bay Area companies participated in an independent, third-party survey, ranking their companies on topics including work culture, management practices, trust with coworkers, benefits, overall compensation, longevity, trust in senior leaders, and feeling valued.

"This award represents what we value most — being a company that our employees believe in and want to work for," said Dave Duffield, Workday co-founder and co-CEO. "As Workday continues to grow its business and team, we remain committed to creating a workplace where employees love coming to work and thrive both personally and professionally."

Workday has an entire team dedicated to making the company a best place to work by offering programs that engage employees and ensure a day at Workday is no ordinary work day. Programs vary by location, but can include anything from on-site massages and dry cleaning services, to lunchtime yoga classes and company sponsored sports teams.

Some of the ways Workday employees like to unwind or spend time together away from their desks:

  • Quarterly company meetings
  • Local sports teams: soccer, softball, rugby, cycling, basketball
  • Bring Your Kids to Workday
  • Bring Your Dogs to Workday
