    Pros

Its a great place to work if you want something in the community, that is very easy to do. Fellow employees were friendly with each other.

    Cons

It might be hard to pick up some of the reasons why someone would choose one tool over another. Customers can be in construction and in a hurry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to how hard different employees are working.

    Pros

The people are the main asset of this company. Everyone is very willing to help everyone else to achieve thier goals.

    Cons

The speed of advancement is usually very slow compared to other companies. People could be in their same role for 3-5 years before being promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in the people and identify the stars. Challenge them and award them accordingly.

I worked at Ace Hardware part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a great company to work for because the managers and employees are laid back, friendly, and easy to get along with, and the customer clientele are also friendly and easy-going, for the most part (working-class people rock!).

    Cons

Dealing with a lot of men that want to hit on you, if you're a lady!! haha!!

I worked at Ace Hardware full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I like hardware stores so this was an interesting job. College town location which meant a wide variety of customers. One construction contractor was trained in opera and would come in and sing for us. People were allowed to bring in their dogs and we had a neighborhood German Shepard who would come in all on his own, head for the register and sit there waiting for his treat. My co-workers were mostly way over-educated for the job which was a plus.

    Cons

Store was over-stocked and understaffed. Manager was an obsessive workaholic and drove us past what we were physically able to do. I broke a bone in my foot (stress fracture) and he never noticed that I was in serious pain and limping badly. He made me feel that if I slowed down or complained I would lose my job. The assistant manager was a disorganized micromanager. A couple of co-workers were out of control. One of them thought teasing people was funny; another was a total head case.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

What promotions? More work, more responsibility should have come with more pay.
Company values--family values are fine, but there is a definite downside to nepotism. The owner's son was supposed to be managing the business but we never saw him. He never came in to help us
time-off policies---when my Dad was sick and dying I couldn't get time off to visit him (it was a nine hour drive) primarily because the head case co-worker was snatching up a lot of vacation time during our busiest seasons. I got yelled at for asking

    I worked at Ace Hardware

    Pros

Decent pay for a cashier position $12 p/h

    Cons

The management & even owners did not care that I was sexually harassed everyday. They ended up firing another girl because she started to file a sexual harassment claim. Poor poor ethics at the 'Griffin' owned ace hardwares.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your employees and don't take advantage of them.

    Pros

    Great Benefits, Great Compensation,

    Cons

Absolutely no communication between Management team, no training, very click type office culture, false values certainly do not practice what they preach,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None, the corporation will do what they want and there is no changing it, they are stuck in an old and non-progressive culture. Don't expect changes, only make changes for yourself which means move on to a more progressive and organized company.
