it used to be a good place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Calgary, AB (Canada)

Prosthis used to be a great place to work, sadly its fallen victim to its own success. At one time they hired only the best and brightest.
Work-life balance used to be stellar, now 60+ hour weeks are the norm.

ConsA lot of the "new wave" of management hires have been people who can talk a lot, but can't achieve anything
The company has stopped promoting from within. It is routine now to pass over more than qualified people in favour of outsiders - the "grass is greener" symptom.

Advice to Senior ManagementSeriously consider firing half of the VP and Director level employees, they are the ones creating the wave of attrition in the organization.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great experience, fast paced and at times demanding

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Calgary, AB (Canada)

ProsGreat proving ground as they at times give you a heavy workload, and if you manage it well it is rewarding. Perhaps a function of being understaffed but lower level employees get challenging work and earn experience that you would only get exposure to as a more senior employee elsewhere.

ConsDemanding at times due the feeling of being understaffed. Salary could be more competitive. Top heavy organization in certain areas and not always a meritocracy for employee recognition.

Advice to Senior ManagementWith the strong focus on growth don't get too tunnel visioned in the process and remember to stop and share the wealth with the guys at ground zero once in a while.

Great staff, but terrible senior management.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat people that have potential to do great work.

ConsSenior management micromanages everyone they can, they are not approachable and are not fair in giving out mid term bonus.

    Great Place to Work!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPeople at AltaGas were very friendly, and it was a great atmosphere to work in. Employers were fair and I found that I could talk to management about whatever I needed to.

ConsAt times it seemed a little bureaucratic in that to see effective change you had to talk to the right people. But there weren't that many people working there, so once you figured out the communication lines, it was fine.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to all employees fairly and make sure there is clear understanding of all decisions. Otherwise, people tend to worry about their job security when there is no reason to.

Conservative oil and gas company with future growth in renewable energy.

Commodity Tax Analyst (Current Employee) Calgary, AB (Canada)

ProsSenior management has conservative business approach regarding capital decisions, but has a forward looking decision making style (investing in renewable energy projects). This combination has provided for a healthy cash flow statement, while establishing a base for the future.

ConsA corporate culture of no lay offs means all areas are a little (and during good times a lot) understaffed. Absorbing new acquisitions has made it difficult for some staff to maintain a work life balance.

Advice to Senior ManagementExamine (and put in place) a way(s) to grow the company while maintaining adequate staffing levels (to prevent burn out).

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
