I have been working at ArcelorMittal USA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Solid compensation at entry level, good benefits including medical & dental, 401k match, and bonus structure. Also tuition reimbursement with 2 years commitment after completion. High value responsibilities at early stages depending on manager. Opportunities available as older generations start to retire at a quicker pace.

    Cons

Legacy systems have trouble integrating. Old ideals - trouble with implementing new ways of thinking. Vacation progression very slow (2 weeks starting, 3 wks after 5 years).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to improve work environment and try to catch up with changing times as far as work-life balance. Vacation could be much more progressive.

    Pros

They are a large enough company that it is possible to move around between departments.

    Cons

The company itself doesn't value its employees, their time, or their efforts. There is never enough money to make the upgrades necessary to the equipment.

I have been working at ArcelorMittal USA as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Large company, numerous available resources, many different departments (a.k.a., you can find a niche that is right for you). Workforce is aging, therefore there are many opportunities for employment. Internship program is great in regards to involvement in projects. If you are not happy with your position, you can request to be transferred to another department. There is always something to work on and the work is challenging. Management is approachable and is ready to help.

    Cons

Facilities are starting to show their age. There are occasionally issues with communication due to large age differences of the work force.

I worked at ArcelorMittal USA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people here are extremely smart and show a great deal of ingenuity. The work was challenging and working in the steel industry was very interesting and fun. The pay was average and I would say the benefits were slightly above average.

    Cons

On multiple occasions politics superseded long term solution building and a reduction of moral. This combined with unclear career paths made new hire retention difficult. For the amount of time spent in East Chicago it would have been nice if the buildings included other amenities like a common place to eat or somewhere to exercise. East Chicago is not always the most hospitable place to find places to go out doors.

I worked at ArcelorMittal USA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I worked at a smaller ArcelorMittal facility, which made project implementation and improvements much easier, and also allowed me to have direct influence over HSE decisions. There was less bureaucracy, and I had a direct line to plant management, and was able to form good relationships with the bargaining unit workforce.

    Cons

There was limited funding directed to our facility, which required you to get creative with money spent, or devise revenue practices. This could also be viewed as a bonus, as it actually allowed us to implement more recycling/reuse programs to generate revenue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There were a few managers who were dead weight and needed to be changed.
Also, those managers who were great at their jobs were rewarded by picking up the slack for the managers who didn't do their own jobs properly. It is sure to cause burn out.
