Former Employee – worked at Assurant full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Great benefits, solid company if more conservative than others on risk. Effective HR. I've heard that flexibility has been increased.
Cons – ineffective employees stay on way too long. Polices are rigid, even when good staff, clients and sales are adversely affected.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Assurant full-time for less than a year
Pros – There are lots of opportunity for advancement.
Cons – There is no real Human Resource presence. When you have an HR issue you do not know who to contact.
Advice to Senior Management – My management was located in Ohio and I was in Georgia. There was very little support. My advice to my old manager would be that respect is earned. Talk to people in a way that you would want to be spoken to.

Former Employee – worked at Assurant full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Peers are good people to work with.
If you're desperate for a job and can get one here, you could do worse.
Benefits are adequate.
Cons – Poor Management of people.
Not a place for innovative thinking. In fact there are active mechanisms in place to punish people who think outside the box.
Taking advantage of economy to demand 50 hours/week of people.
Advice to Senior Management – I would advise Management to learn how to manage people, but that advice would fall on deaf ears. This is because success in the company is based on your political astuteness, not your competence or people management skills.

Former Employee – worked at Assurant full-time for more than a year
Pros – Good opportunity if you are in the right department and location. Company uses product innovation to stay competitive and has done a decent job in staying relevant in the industry.
Cons – Has a bad reputation for not paying claims which leads to disgruntled clients which leads to client attrition. Also, has a tendency to quckly become uncompetitive in any given market.
Advice to Senior Management – Find your niche and stay there.

Former Employee – worked at Assurant full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – A family like working environment with people on your team. Easier to advance to new jobs within the company when already an associate applying within.
Cons – Hard to get hired back when you leave on good terms. Too many people cut corners to make productions, while employees that work correctly get punished when compared.
Advice to Senior Management – Advance those employees who have been there over 3 years to higher positions within the department, instead of keeping them at their starting position for ever. Change the production criteria to a range quota, instead of an exact number quota each month because that system hurts innocent people. Management on all levels included HR should be trained on how to talk to associates politely and professionally. Yelling doesn't solve anything, especially if the person really didn't do anything major. Management needs to stop firing so many people over production.
