Review of Autonation

Accounting Manager (Current Employee)
Lewisville, TX (US)

I have been working at AutoNation full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat people, always room for advancement

Consnever had anything bad to say about autonation until a new controller was hired and after a certain incident, i was the only one who was written up and eventually she fired me and brought in someone from her other store to replace me for less money.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere are always 2 sides to every story and maybe you should hear the losing persons side and get all the facts before you terminate a person who dedicated 7 yrs to the company and would have done anything for the company to let someone who had no dealership exp. come in and fire your long time employee.

Money's no good.

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Valencia, CA (US)

I worked at AutoNation full-time for more than a year

ProsYou get to drive nice cars, dress nice, always meet new people & sell cars. Learn a good amount about the cars you sell.

ConsPay system is horrible. They don't pay you what you deserve. Benefits are a joke. The Chevy dealer in Valencia always gave away all the profit in a car just to make a deal so we as salesman wouldn't make enough to hardly survive.

Advice to Senior ManagementPull your heads out! Create a pay system that actually benefits your employees.

Worked there for 1 ½ years.

Finance Manager (Former Employee)
Clearwater, FL (US)

I worked at AutoNation full-time for more than a year

ProsVery good training. Large company with room for rapid advancement.

ConsSalaries/commissions below industry standards. Expected to work very long hours including nights, weekends & all holidays but xmas & thanksgiving.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive your employees a little well-earned time off and stop burning your employees out.

Some good. Some not so good.

Salesman (Current Employee)

I have been working at AutoNation full-time for more than 5 years

ProsDecent compensation. Can get time off when needed. Coworkers are nice.

ConsWhen a new "action plan" is created it last for a week or so and then it is gone. Managers act like they are there to help you, but not really. The training process that is so organized is not there. If you have never sold cars before you could be in trouble here. Also I at times find it hard to be in the grey area that they are always pushing us to.

poor experience ,blame comes mostly by others doing

Service Advisor (Former Employee)
Fort Lauderdale, FL (US)

I worked at AutoNation full-time for more than a year

Prosdiscount on service work for own vehicle if you can befriend a tech, detail tech, etc

ConsHigh pressure service sales. Threaten job if low satisfaction scores low. Most of it rests on you when there are multiple others that contribute to how your scores come out. Long and early working hours and a decrepitated old facility with rats, etc

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn how to respect and treat the employees, give them a larger percentage of the pie. update the facility. Get rid of unrealistic sales objectives, and satisfaction scores that depend on others to be good to start.

They only want "yes managers"

Auto Parts Consultant (Current Employee)
Fort Lauderdale, FL (US)

I have been working at AutoNation full-time for more than 10 years

Prospeople are great to work with

ConsHave made less every year for the past 5 years, They will rearange your pay so you make less. Even though they say they are giving you a raise. Management is not allowed to disagree with corporate even if the idea is not good.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow for disagreement on ideas that came from corporate. Accept ideas from the "rank and file".

I have been working at AutoNation full-time for less than a year

ProsTremendous amount to learn. Great co-workers.

ConsLong hours with below minimum wage pay.

Worked for Corporate in Texas Region

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at AutoNation

ProsI worked for a great Team... Our Market was always #1.

ConsWorked 70 hrs a week. Always on call. No real respect for personal time.

Advice to Senior ManagementTexas is a completely different market. Wish Corporate was able to see that. Seemed that no matter how good you were it wasn't good enough.
