My experience working at AutoZone was reward, but advancement is political.

Commercial Sales Manager (Current Employee)
Fort Myers, FL (US)

I have been working at AutoZone full-time for more than a year

ProsThe only pro about working at AutoZone is the experience and the co-workers.

ConsConstant change in leadership. I left after my store manager failed to follow company policy. I advised my RM who ignored the situation as well. Very unprofessonal

Advice to Senior ManagementReward your employees. Give opportunities to this who deserve it not those who kiss ass.

Mostly a good experience.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at AutoZone full-time for less than a year

ProsThe hiring process is pretty straightforward and not lengthy. The management are friendly and willing to teach, which makes this an easy transition from another job type. The lunches are an hour long, and you'll very rarely see a more than 8 hour shift unless you're in management, and then not every day.

ConsScheduling can be fairly erratic. When you're there, there can be very little breathing time between customers, if any. This can lend to disorganization and chaos with the wrong managers. You have to be specific when your availability is, but they are pretty good at sticking to it.

Advice to Senior ManagementStore schedules should be more standardized. when people have a schedule that's more or less the same every week, they can get way more comfortable with a job and then flourish and care about the company, instead of getting burned out and not caring and eventually quitting or getting let go. Nobody likes turnover. Even the customer. From their perspective, they work really hard to form a relationship with the people behind the counter, and they want to see those faces when they come in.

I very much enjoyed working there but the hours were not worth my commute.

Sales/Customer Service (Former Employee)
Americus, GA (US)

I worked at AutoZone full-time for less than a year

ProsI loved meeting new people and helping them repair their vehicles. I am organized and enjoyed organizing the shelves. Automotive parts are interesting to me, learning how they work and where they go was a good experience for me. My hours were great, as well as the people.

ConsThe hours were not good after training.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would have stayed if I was given more hours. But I was told that everyone's hours were being decreased due to lack of sales.

Smoke and mirrors; they want you to be a upstanding person, but they aren't that way.

Customer Service Representative (CSR) (Current Employee)
Eastpointe, MI (US)

I have been working at AutoZone part-time for less than a year

ProsI like the people, either working or helping others, I like them.

ConsI got hurt at work and my doctor put me on restrictions, they never scheduled me again. I also called the district manager to find out what was going on, and he never called me back.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe upstanding, don't just say you are but be it show it and you will get and keep good upstanding people.

ProsCoworkers, work-life balance. Flexible with college schedule.

ConsNo money, dumb customers usually on drugs. Hearing about WITT items 24/7.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs with most employers, up the pay and provide better benefits. A lot of employees seemed to be broke all the time.
