When you first start, a lot of hours
    Employee discount
Ability to switch and pick-up shifts

    Cons

    Not much room for growth
Hours decrease and are based on performance (mainly cards)
Almost felt used, I was doing things beyond my job description and I was told a promotion will come... I'm still waiting
Horrible stock/employee break room (bug infested)
GM had no clue what he was doing, I literally had to train managers on register (mind you this is my training day)

I worked at Banana Republic full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The actual company itself is great - feels like a family. Everyone is genuinely friendly, the discount is amazing, and the customer base is relatively friendly and in my experience rarely hostile. The management truly cares for all of the employees and tries best to meet your needs, there's a lot of training; however, not a lot of room for advancement.

    Cons

The hours are horrible, I'll admit they range from 5am shifts to 7:30am shifts always expect multiple overnights in a row and they schedule outside of availability. Most people who work there cycle out quickly, if you make it past the year point you usually work there for a very long period of time. There's a lot of high stress situations to deal with - but, in the end the job was manageable.

    Pros

Fun staff and discount on clothes. Very flexible work hours.

    Cons

Heavy emphasis on pushing sales onto customers just to make quotas.

I worked at Banana Republic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Store was 5 minutes from my house so I had a short commute and I loved my team that I worked with.

    Cons

District management was terrible. There were some stores in the district that the DM hadn't visited in over 2 years. There was no development for any of the staff - from management team to sales team. Company doesn't put any effort in improving employees.

I have been working at Banana Republic part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I have three of the best managers! I love what the company stands for. Being able to speak with the general public and listen to all their funny stories. Seeing the customers smile because you made them feel important. As an employee you get 50% off your purchases.

    Cons

I prefer working with two out of the three. One manager in particular seems to get anxious which doesn't create a warm environment, but you can tell she cares.

You don't get a lot of hours. One week, I only worked one day out the week for 4 hours. If you have bills and/or student loans then you will need a better job.

Something that might not seem fun, is trying to get customers to sign up for a Banana Republic card (management strongly suggest this).

If you have never worked in a retail store before, there will be a lot of things you may have never heard, but coworkers will speak to you as if you do. Don't be silent! Ask questions!

    Pros

Make great Connections, great benefits, fun place to work in, they do a good job at developing

    Cons

Pay, you only get a 25 cent raise if that a year, name of the game is working up to earn more. Moving up is tough depending on who your mangers are, a lot of times they look outside the company

I have been working at Banana Republic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I feel motivated by the company, very supportive towards progression and feel proud to be part of a leading and expanding brand. Open to new ideas and always trying push to get the best out of every staff member. The product is getting better every season which makes me want to sell it harder! Love the atmosphere in central stores, the luxury and chicness of the brand gives real competition to other luxury brands on the high st.

    Cons

Hard to think of cons, but as a ember of management, i would love to have a little more payroll hours to ensure that my team are getting all the training they need effectively first time round.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to managemnt is to keep doing what they are doing because they are fab! Maybe sometimes have realistic time frames with some tasks as it can get too operational in stores at times due to workload. Apart from that all is great!

I worked at Banana Republic full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Excellent discounts across the brands, good benefits. Great charitable grants and community service opportunities. Wonderful team to work with!

    Cons

I really don't have any cons from working here. The work life balance could be improved, but it is retail - so one really shouldn't expect to constantly have weekends off.
