I have been working at Barclays (more than a year)

    Pros

    1) Flexible work timings
    2) Good leave structure
    3) Work from home (Looks like pros but in reality it is con :)
    4) Competitive pay scale

    Cons

    1) Totally manager driven company. Your appraisal or bonus depends on yr relation with manager not on efforts you are putting. So if you don't work doesn't matter if you are good in .....( no need to specify :)
    2) HR are worst--- You meet them only at induction and while leaving the company, I believe most of HR's are doing their interns as they themselves are not aware of Barclays policy.
    3) Join company at B5 - PM level, not at B4(Tech lead) or B3 else your personal life is going to be miserable.
    4) No Onsite - Racial discrimination.
    5) Appraisal process is not well defined, it all depends on your relation with line manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think most of B5 Managers are getting recruited by using Jack without any interviews with their relation with former or existing employee at higher level. Please provide some PMP training to managers as most are from non-technical and non -it background. OR Change the way of recruiting B5 Managers by scrutinizing their management and leader ship skills.

I have been working at Barclays

    Pros

    Paycheck is good.
    Good infrastructure and facilities.
    I learned a lot.

    Cons

Maybe it was just in my office but everyone was very competitive.
    Not a good work/life balace.Worked almost 10-12 hours a day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should give more feedbacks and interact more with the employees.

I have been working at Barclays

    Pros

A good company to work in, very encouraging atmosphere , fair compensation and many performance based bonuses. Would definitively vouch for the company.

    Cons

Work load is overwhelming at times but again you can't expect everything to be rosy.

I have been working at Barclays full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The Bank has a great start attracting HNI customers at a prime locality of the cosmopolitan city.

    Cons

but unfortunately it became directionless in the sunny field of retail banking, where other smaller new ones had made fortunes and Indian Govt. Banks started consolidating, with huge business, this one has thought otherwise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put in place proper people to manage the field level jobs where the staff directly handling customers has to have full job satisfaction by way of eligible leave, salary and other working conditions as are expected of a MNC Bank. Otherwise it is bound to fail.

BTCI as a unit not valued much

I worked at Barclays full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible work culture
Pay on par with most IT companies
Constant employee feedback measuring at company level
Encourages employee participation at all levels
Lot of internal openings for movement/promotion
    Yearly Leave Allowance

    Cons

Specific to business unit I worked with especially about onshore stakeholders:
Racially motivated, treats Indian counterparts as low grade people
    Concentrating core development work onshore
Too much interference in local management
Your major time is lost in meetings rather than focusing on actual work

    Company level:
No focus on location strategy in Pune
    Most processes marred with bureaucracy
Lack of standard processes across business units
Senior staff within company not open to change in work culture
Appraisal process is murky and lacks clarity and direction at site level
No involvement of HR in handling employee grievance/issues after induction
Internal movements not flexible, leads to career stagnation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

High time company establishes a firm identity of it's own while operating as a captive unit, a lot of money is being spent on employee welfare and other stuff however the employee is already missing out of that equation

Former Employee - Technical Lead (B4) in Pune
Former Employee - Technical Lead (B4) in Pune

I worked at Barclays full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    1) good salary. around 20% more than market salary(if you have negotiated during HR discussion)
2)Work from home option sometimes when you need
    3) flexible work hour
    4) year end bonus of 10% if you have got average and good rating

    Cons

    1) Work pressure. similar type of work on daily basis -so no growth
    2) Work from home does not mean you will be working less. This is the catch to provide you laptop and blackberry and burden you on work
    3) No transparent process in Appraisal. so lobby/oiling works. so tjose who are well politically stay here for long term
    4) No promotion . the role on which you have joined you will have to work on same role and no defined process to move to next level
    5) Whatever a 2yr guy does in support even a 10 yr B4 will do same work and when rating is provided manager has lot of point to tell what you have done when a 2 yr guy is doing what u also are doing
    6) no onsite. if u get a one/2 week onsite then it is a loss for you. as there is no per diem amount. whatever u spent at onsite they will provide the same amount once u provide the bill and same money u will get in 2 months.
    7) any monetary claim amount is paid after a month or more(45 days around SLA time)
    8) some manager who have joined 2-3 yr back does not want to switch job as they are getting paid very good salary and for them no work. just co-ordinate and bother the technical people

    9) You can not escalate anything to HR as it looks like HR process is there just to recruit the people and have 2 days of induction
    10) No internal position change as your current manager does not release you
    11) firing at singapore center - so no job security
    12) Some managers tries to bully you

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

1)Define the exp level and promote the people to next role
    2) set the objective and expectation of employee and work with them to grow rather than their carrer becoming stagnant here
