I worked at Cablevision Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great work/life balance. Medical paycheck deductions are very low. Can surf the net or read a book while waiting for a call. Product benefit of only paying $20-40 months for Cablevision service. Friendly, approachable supervisors.

    Cons

Really hard to get a vacation day approved. Chained to your desk all day and have to use part of two daily 15 min breaks to go to the bathroom. Have to work a Sat or Sun. Senior management adjusts promos to make saving and upselling the customers harder. Lack of advancement opportunities in the department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management should take some phone calls to get an idea of what promotions and saves would work. Make it easier to get approved for vacation days to help reduce employee stress. Allow casual dress on the weekends.

I worked at Cablevision Systems full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are no good reasons at all. Good pay and free food once in a blue moon.

    Cons

Supervisors don't have your back. Either they were wrong or mistaken, they don't admit to their faults. Instead, they blame it on you. They would do anything but taking responsibility when it comes to things that make them look stupid in front of the big shots. They micromanage you like wouldn't even believe. One-on-one meetings are completely useless because no matter how much you try, you are not acknowledged. Your supervisor will pick through every single thing that you did right or wrong. Even if it was something that she/he told you to do or say, you're still wrong, it's still not good enough. You are nothing but a number. If you get a written warning on something, that's it. They're on you. Not to help you improve but to find what else did you do wrong. You'll notice a bunch of suck ups and you'll know why. The money may be good but it's not worth the aggravation and bring put down all the time. Hours are not flexible. Based on a bid. They determine this by your numbers. Punctuality is a must. One minute late gets you a warning. No matter where your cubical is, it's either too hot or too cold. Bringing a jacket in during hot summer months is a must. You would see some of the managers there and think, how the heck that they're running this place the way that they are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Why bother? They don't listen.

I worked at Cablevision Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Cablevision is highly motivated to advance their product offerings in a highly competitive marketplace. To maintain or increase market share, Cablevision needs to dispense with old-school thinking regarding what they *think* customers want and look at the data they have available to them. Some groups within Cablevision are doing this more effectively than others. Good benefits, decent vacation, some nice perks.

    Cons

Dysfunctional management and constant restructuring leaves many people in fear for their jobs, resulting in lower productivity and a real morale problem. Those in the ivory towers don't see it (or don't want to acknowledge it). Too many talented people have been let go in the course of trying out half-baked org structures led by people whose only 'talent' seems to be their ability to intimidate.
