    Pros

Not many pros working in such a huge school system- all depends on what type of school administration and kids you have. But overall, in comparison to other countries, CMS paid the best!

    Cons

Individual schools are not allowed to really cater as much to their individual needs. That goes for both students and staff. Everything always has to fit under the CMS umbrella and often that vision or project changes month to month. Spend all year or semester working on 1 initiative at a school only to have it thrown out or outdated by the end of the year. Teachers are expected to welcome more and more work with less and less compensation. (Again, I would argue a lot of this is subjective to what kind of principal and admin you have at each school, but this was my experience). Only certain teachers get credit on our new evaluation system for extra duties taken on, while others are told 'thanks for doing your part'.

    Pros

Benefits and highest pay in the state (49th in the country). CMS is very trendy and loves bandwagons! Lots of job titles created that doesn't increase pay but dies add lines to your resume because of responsibility load.

    Cons

The pay will never catch up to the rest of the nation. During my 4 years I had 3 superintendents. This system is unstable at best and teetering on imploding. The system is too large and has various buzz words that you and your career will live or due by. There are not many opportunities for professional teachers (7 years or more of experience) to be eligible for upward mobility that impacts salary. CMS is big on "two then through" teachers and then brings in the new batch. Its disgusting to watch a 26 year old become a principal over people with real classroom knowledge, education, and experience!!! If you are fired up about educating and shaping kids I assure you, your "fire" will be extinguished. Lastly, they don't pay for you to further your education and got rid of the masters pay increase. If education doesn't see the value of education God help us all.

    Advice to Management

Break the district up into smaller systems. Increase the pay and make school about kids and educating the whole child not just for a test. Respect experience and reward it.

    Pros

You will gain experience working with a diverse population of students

    Cons

No accomplishments are good enough. You work MANY hours and they always want more.

    Advice to Management

Provide adequate staffing so that your teachers have time to teach, plan lessons, and do the rest of their job.

    Pros

LOVE working in CTE, the benefits in working with CTE are great. I would not teacher in core subject areas at all.

    Cons

Compensation is not great especially If you have advanced degrees, also administration can be both a plus or a minus depending on who you get.

    Advice to Management

To those that make decisions on pay, consider letting the school level give out bonuses to teachers who consistently go above and beyond.
