    Pros

Excellent culture, work life balance, world class office facilities, always looking for innovation

    Cons

Old company has old code which needs to be maintained. If you are not lucky, you will end up maintaining and fixing bugs in shipped code.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good work environment, nice manager, lots of benefits like work from home, internet reimbursement, good chunk of paid holidays, good compensation, good overtime payment, good cross functional opportunities, free breakfast and dinner, free gym facilities, doctor on campus, dental checkup twice a year, medical insurance for parents (without any premium from the employee)

    Cons

The only challenge is "you don't know when they will kick you out"; this is happening every year since 2011

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

US management should be more considerate on salary towards people sitting in India - the inflation rate in US and India is just not the same. 3% hike in India doesn't mean anything

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - work from home policy is liberal
    - dev and test generally are on same payscales as per grade
    - from tech lead/manager level upward the pay and bonus are pretty good
    - reasonable work hrs except in certain crunch times
    - well developed process to roll out products, does not depend on 'napoleons' to get things done
    - good childcare center is onsite albeit one needs to reserve seat 24 months in advance, special cabs are provided to parents who want to bring the kids in cabs
    - vast array of food choices at reasonable price
    - good bus/cab service at nominal charge and two timings to every part of the city

    Cons

    - payscale for junior grades not that good
    - variable nature of work, some times good or bad depending on project or business unit
    - tendency of san jose to monopolize all the best work and opportunities even in relation to other sites in the US
    - too many mid level managers probably
    - due to long tail of support for legacy products lot of time goes in that, as opposed to fresh cleansheet work
    - a tendency to shift product support from site to site without enough skill building
    - hard to get promotions and raises in general
    - HR is invisible behind a web tool, the manager is doing HR role mostly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - distribute work more around the dev sites rather than let san jose eat all the fresh meat . they mess up as much as anyone else. avoiding looking at san jose as the 'gods'
    - be more generous with pay for juniors to retain the best candidates
    - make it worth it for senior tech people by improving overall profile of work in india

Former Employee - TAC Engineer  in  Bangalore
Former Employee - TAC Engineer in Bangalore

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I started working at Cisco TAC in Bangalore when it was just being set up. The benefits were amazing! Work from home, weekend/holiday pay, shift allowance, free cab service to and from home, energetic and young workplace, completely informal.

    Cons

Lots of politics, stack ranking, not easy to advance, and MOST OF ALL, a lot of people seem to treat TAC as a temp job while they hunt for other jobs. Well, it was my first job out of college, so it may be that other jobs are also like that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go easy on coercing employees into shifts, make it clear that holiday/weekend work is optional. REMOVE stack ranking, it is such BS!
